Description:
The Surgical Technician-NCA assists other members of the health care team in the delivery of patient care during the intra-operative period.
The major focus for this position is on preparation and handling of instrumentation and surgical equipment.
This role involves assisting the surgeon during surgical procedures.
The individual administers care and use of equipment applications based on the age and needs of the patient population served, from neonate to geriatric.
The Surgical Technician must possess knowledge of specific procedures or specialties.
This role requires the ability to effectively prioritize tasks and problem solve due to the changing nature of surgical work situations.
The individual must recognize the need for immediate response during urgent or emergency situations.
Basic knowledge of medical terminology, the metric system, and aseptic technique is essential.
This knowledge must be applied in all patient and family interactions.
Responsibilities include displaying aseptic technique in the performance of surgical duties to ensure positive patient outcomes.
The Surgical Technician is responsible for the care, preparation, handling, and maintenance of surgical instrumentation.
Consistent performance in sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy and procedure is required.
Demonstrating knowledge and adherence to professional standards of practice is expected.
