Design Build Project Engineer - Manhattan, NY

The Project Engineer will lead design-build construction projects for the MTA, overseeing all phases from planning through completion. This role ensures projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with public-sector and transit authority standards. Based in Long Island, New York, this position requires strong experience managing complex infrastructure, transportation, or large-scale construction projects in a design-build environment. Description Support Project Managers in delivering commercial and retail construction projects from start to finish Assist with project planning, scheduling, and budgeting to ensure timelines and cost targets are met Manage and track RFIs, submittals, permits, and project documentation Coordinate with architects, engineers, subcontractors, and suppliers to maintain project flow Review drawings and specifications to ensure alignment with project requirements Monitor site progress, quality control, and safety compliance throughout construction Support procurement and subcontractor buyout processes Assist in tracking project costs, change orders, and financial reporting Participate in project meetings and provide updates to internal and external stakeholders Help drive project closeout, including punch lists, O&M manuals, and final documentation MPI does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, marital status, or based on an individual's status in any group or class protected by applicable federal, state or local law. Profile A successful Project Manager should have: Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) required (active license) Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field 3-8+ years of experience in commercial, retail, or mixed-use construction projects Strong understanding of project coordination, scheduling, and cost control Experience managing RFIs, submittals, change orders, and project documentation Proven ability to work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and subcontractors Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contracts Strong communication skills - able to coordinate with owners, consultants, and field teams Hands-on experience with construction software (Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project, etc.) preferred Detail-oriented, proactive, and able to drive tasks from preconstruction through closeout Job Offer Competitive annual salary ranging from $150,000 to $160,000.
