Field Service Technician

Job Summary Position: Forklift Service Technician / Mechanic – Lancaster, NY Shift: First shift, Monday through Friday Hourly: Full‑time, no flat rate Benefits Company van (parked at home each day) Company fuel card and cell phone Paid time off and holidays Outstanding benefits package provided by the local union Competitive wages Company uniforms provided $2,500 sign‑on bonus Responsibilities Perform preventative maintenance on customer forklifts and other material handling equipment Diagnose and repair all forms of customer equipment Complete each repair job in a timely, efficient, and professional manner Provide exceptional customer service Work and manage workloads independently Properly complete and submit all required paperwork Maintain company vehicle and onboard parts inventory Incorporate Alta's Guiding Principles into daily activities Perform other duties as assigned Maintain consistent, regular, and reliable attendance, ready for work at the designated start time Training & Development We encourage technicians to participate in our in‑house paid training program to acquire additional skills in diagnosis, troubleshooting, and career advancement. Qualifications Two years of forklift repair experience, including military, guard, or reserve service with MOS or NEC codes 63B, 63H, 63S, 63W, 63Y, 91B, 91H, 91L, 91M, or CM Previous field experience highly preferable Strong working knowledge of electric and liquid propane units Excellent mechanical aptitude Possess own tools Clean driving record and valid driver’s license to operate company vehicle Proficiency with HYPASS, Hyster TKC training software, and Yale/Hyster contact management system Intermediate language skills: read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak before groups of customers or employees Basic mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide two‑digit numbers, and apply operations using units of American money, weight, volume, and distance Intermediate reasoning ability: apply common sense to carry out instructions written, orally, or diagrammatically; solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations Physical Demands / Work Environment Regularly stand, walk, use hands, reach with hands; occasionally sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl No special vision requirements Lift up to 10 pounds regularly; 11 to 25 pounds frequently; 26 to 100+ pounds occasionally Frequent bending and working from a prone position under equipment Work near moving mechanical parts, exposed to fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions; occasionally wet or humid conditions (non-weather), extreme cold and heat (non-weather), electrical shock, vibration Compensation Base pay range: $22.00 to $33.00 per hour. Compensation is determined by location, skill set, education, and experience. Benefits and potential bonuses are not included in this range.
