A warehouse janitor maintains the cleanliness, sanitation, and safety of distribution and storage facilities. Daily tasks include sweeping floors, sanitizing breakrooms and restrooms, emptying trash, and operating industrial equipment like ride-on sweepers or cardboard balers. This fast-paced role involves frequent lifting and standing for long shifts.
Core Responsibilities
- Facility Sanitation: Deep clean and restock warehouse breakrooms, locker rooms, and restrooms. Disinfect high-touch surfaces in accordance with health protocols.
- Floor Maintenance: Sweep, mop, and vacuum office spaces. Operate industrial floor scrubbers and sweepers to keep vast concrete transit pathways clear and dust-free.
- Waste Management: Gather and dispose of trash and recyclables. Operate and maintain cardboard balers and trash compactors.
- Safety & Compliance: Clear aisles of debris to prevent workplace hazards. Report facility maintenance issues—such as broken lights or damaged dock doors—to the warehouse manager.
- Supply Management: Monitor inventory levels of cleaning supplies, paper products, and soap, submitting reorder requests to supervisors.
Key Qualifications & Requirements
- Physical Stamina: Ability to stand and walk for up to 8-10 hours per day, frequently bending, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Equipment Operation: Comfort operating or willingness to learn industrial cleaning machinery and manual material handling equipment (e.g., hand trucks).
- Safety Protocols: Understanding of OSHA guidelines and safety data sheets (SDS) for handling commercial cleaning chemicals.
