Client Advocate (PRN - Days) - Domestic Violence Housing Program

Position: Client Advocate Program: Domestic Violence Housing Program Status: PRN, Hourly position Available shifts: Sunday6:00 am‑11:00 am Monday6:00 am‑11:00 am Tuesday6:00 am‑11:00 am Wednesday6:00 am‑10:00 am Thursday— OFF Friday— OFF Saturday— OFF Shift Differential $1 from 4:00 pm to 12:00 am and $2 from 12:00 am to 8:00 am. Description Candidate will provide advocacy and crisis intervention services for clients and implement daily activities while ensuring a safe, structured, therapeutic environment. Duties include completing intake interviews, answering hotline calls, safety planning, facilitating community‑building activities, and providing transportation as needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Complete intake and discharge paperwork for clients in shelter. Teach basic life‑skills to clients, addressing individualized needs (behavior management, communication skills, cooking, recreation, parenting skills, budgeting). Provide ongoing support and advocacy for clients. Aid clients in meeting case‑management/treatment goals. Provide transportation as needed. Dispense medications according to med‑tech certification guidelines. Maintain accurate documentation and client records. Perform general clerical duties, answer telephones, and handle hotline calls. Assist in volunteer training and utilize volunteers to meet client needs. Attend internal and external trainings and workshops to fulfill the 40‑hour per year licensing requirement, subject to budget and staff/client ratios. Handle minor maintenance duties around the facility; submit maintenance requests to management. Maintain client confidentiality. Communicate with other staff members, both written and oral. Attend and participate in weekly staff meetings and case reviews. Maintain a clean environment (cleaning facility areas, office area, laundering linens, completing other household tasks as needed). Unload, sort, and organize donations; record donations and complete thank‑you cards for donors. Create menus for the program and submit grocery requests to designated staff. Prepare and cook meals for clients as required. Serve as on‑call coverage advocate when needed. Participate in performance and quality improvement activities. Perform other duties as assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Directly supervise 1‑2 volunteers in the shelter as needed, following organization policies and applicable laws. Qualifications Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two‑year college or technical school, or six months to one year of related experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Minimum 21 years of age. Valid driver’s license with sufficient insurance and clean motor vehicle record; proof of car insurance. Ability to use general office equipment, type, and use computer software (Microsoft Office). Strong communication skills (verbal, written, and group presentation). Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, ratios, percentages); ability to interpret bar graphs. Reasonable problem‑solving ability and common‑sense judgment. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations Med‑Tech Certification. CPR certification. ClassE Chauffeur’s License within 30 days of hire. Food Handlers License if required for the position. Other Skills and Requirements Pass background check, fingerprinting, drug screen, and family care safety registry screening. Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Physical Demands Regular use of hands, reach, and hearing; occasional standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and lifting up to 25–50 pounds. Requires close, distance, and peripheral vision. Work Environment Exposure to fumes, airborne particles, and communicable diseases; occasional exposure to outside weather conditions; moderate noise; potential exposure to violence and secondary trauma.
