Details 17-bed Med/Surg Tele unit with a 1:4 patient ratio Receives patients from the Emergency Department, Medical ICU, clinics, outside hospitals, and nursing facilities Cares for a wide range of diagnoses including diabetes, sickle cell crisis, COPD exacerbations, and ESRD with pulmonary hypertension Manages wounds, drains, and tubes as part of routine care Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (19:00-07:00) 36 or 48 hours per week available Every other weekend and every other holiday required Block scheduling cannot be guaranteed Must float within scope of practice per facility policy Epic EMR experience required Requirements Active RN license (VA or Compact) required; pending license accepted if in hand by the Wednesday before start date BLS certification required; ACLS preferred Minimum 1 year of Med/Surg Tele experience required 1:5 patient ratio experience preferred Prior charge nurse experience preferred BSN preferred Teaching hospital, community hospital, LTAC, and Trauma Level I/II experience preferred Epic charting system experience required Skilled in IV therapy, phlebotomy, and central/peripheral line management Experience with respiratory care including BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, and oxygen administration Knowledge of cardiac monitoring and dysrhythmia management Experience with wound care, isolation precautions, and IV insulin protocols Familiarity with pre/post neurosurgical and renal failure care preferred Two professional references required at time of consideration Copies of required certifications must be provided Additional Information Provide comprehensive Med/Surg Tele nursing care including line management, respiratory support, and wound care Maximum of 40 hours of RTO allowed per 13-week contract, with no additional time off approved after offer acceptance Time off around Labor Day cannot be approved Any vacation plans between sign date and start date must be disclosed early to arrange a suitable start date Specialty-specific orientation modules completed during onboarding and tracked in Workday No mileage or radius restriction applies to this unit Previous UVA Health employees (permanent staff or internal/external travelers) must have a 1-year separation and leadership approval before returning External travelers cannot exceed 365 total assignment days at this facility and are not eligible to return afterward First-time travelers are welcome to apply as travel experience is not required American Traveler Job ID P-746956.
