Mechitronic is an international industrial group specializing in advanced automated equipment and solutions for demanding manufacturing environments. The Group brings together complementary expertise in automated assembly, packaging, molding and industrial automation , serving customers across industries including pharmaceutical, medical devices, cosmetic and industrial applications.

The Group's local Service Center for the American market is operationally based in Sugar Grove in Chicago area . It provides a direct interface between customers and Mechitronic companies, supporting the installed base through technical assistance, spare parts, preventive and proactive services, service contracts, modernization and performance improvement initiatives, while also supporting the development of new business opportunities.

The US organization works in close collaboration with the Group's engineering, Customer Service and commercial teams internationally.

Role Purpose

The Mechanical Service Technician is part of Mechitronic Service USA and provides field technical support to customers across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico .

The role supports a broad installed base of automated assembly and packaging equipment , including indexed and continuous-motion machines , and combines reactive technical assistance with planned and proactive service activities.

This is a highly customer-facing role requiring strong mechanical expertise, autonomy, problem-solving capability and a proactive service mindset. Beyond executing technical interventions, the technician is expected to understand customer operational needs and contribute to the development of service solutions that improve equipment reliability, availability and performance.

The position combines autonomy in the field with strong teamwork , working closely with colleagues in the US Service Center and with technical experts across the different Mechitronic companies.

Key Responsibilities

Field Service & Technical Support

• Perform on-site troubleshooting, diagnosis and repair of mechanical issues on automated assembly and packaging equipment.
• Independently manage field interventions, from initial assessment through troubleshooting, corrective action, testing and return of the equipment to production.
• Perform mechanical adjustments, component replacement, machine setup, changeovers and optimization activities.
• Support emergency interventions and production-critical situations with a structured and customer-oriented approach.
• Work effectively on different machine technologies, including indexed and continuous-motion automation systems .
• Use machine HMI, PLC diagnostics and automation information as part of the troubleshooting process, collaborating with automation specialists when deeper software intervention is required.

Preventive, Proactive & Performance Services

• Perform scheduled preventive maintenance, inspections and machine health checks .
• Identify wear, deterioration, mechanical risks and improvement opportunities before they result in production failures.
• Recommend corrective actions, spare parts and technical improvements based on machine condition and operating experience.
• Support continuous-improvement and machine-performance initiatives at customer sites.
• Understand customer production challenges and contribute to identifying and shaping proactive service offerings tailored to customer needs , including preventive maintenance, production support, machine optimization, modernization and performance-related services.
• Bring field experience and customer feedback into the continuous evolution of the Mechitronic service offering.

Service Contract Execution

• Execute activities included in customer service and production-support contracts , such as preventive maintenance, periodic inspections, production support, troubleshooting and technical improvement activities.
• Take ownership of assigned contractual activities and ensure they are executed according to agreed scope, schedule and service levels.
• Understand the objectives and commitments of each assigned service contract, not only the individual technical tasks.
• Provide clear intervention reports, findings and recommendations and contribute to follow-up actions.
• Identify emerging customer needs and opportunities to expand or improve the support provided.

Customer Relationship

• Act as a professional front-line representative of Mechitronic at customer sites.
• Communicate clearly and confidently with customer maintenance, engineering and production teams.
• Manage technical discussions professionally, including during production-critical and high-pressure situations.
• Build customer trust through technical competence, responsiveness, transparency and ownership.
• Understand customer operational priorities and translate field observations into actionable service recommendations.
• Identify additional service needs and opportunities and communicate them to the appropriate Service and Sales teams.

Teamwork & Cross-Company Collaboration

• Work as an active member of the Mechitronic Service USA team , sharing information, supporting colleagues and contributing to common customer and business objectives.
• Combine the ability to operate autonomously at customer sites with the ability to recognize when collaboration or technical escalation is required.
• Support equipment from different Mechitronic companies and progressively develop knowledge across the Group's installed base.
• Collaborate closely with engineering, automation and Customer Service teams in Europe and internationally for complex troubleshooting and technical support.
• Share field experience, lessons learned and customer feedback with colleagues to strengthen the collective knowledge of the Service organization.
• Support other technicians when required and contribute to a culture of knowledge sharing, mutual support and continuous improvement .
• Contribute to the development of common service practices and standards within Mechitronic Service USA.

Experience & Technical Background

• Degree, Associate Degree or technical qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics or a related technical discipline. Equivalent relevant technical education combined with strong hands-on industrial experience will also be considered.
• Approximately 7+ years of relevant experience in field service, machine maintenance, commissioning or technical support within industrial automation.
• Proven hands-on experience with automated assembly and/or packaging machinery .
• Experience with indexed and continuous-motion equipment strongly preferred.
• Strong mechanical knowledge including mechanisms, transmissions, pneumatics, actuators, tooling, machine adjustments and precision assemblies.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, technical documentation and machine manuals.
• Good understanding of industrial automation and ability to work effectively alongside electrical and automation specialists.
• Basic working knowledge of PLC-controlled machinery, HMI systems and industrial automation , sufficient to navigate diagnostics, interpret machine status and alarms, identify likely root causes and support troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with major industrial automation platforms such as Siemens and Rockwell/Allen-Bradley is an advantage.
• Experience in pharmaceutical, medical device, consumer goods or other highly automated manufacturing environments is an advantage.

Location & Mobility

The position is based at Mechitronic Service USA in Sugar Grove, in the Chicago area , and requires frequent travel to customer sites across the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico .

Travel intensity may vary depending on customer requirements, emergency interventions and planned service-contract activities.

Package 

·          Base salary: $85,000–$110,000 per year , depending on experience and qualifications

·          Annual performance bonus: target 7.5% of base salary , based on individual and company performance
