The Boise Bicycle Project seeks a Director of Shop Operations to ensure that bicycles, bicycle repair and bicycle education are available to our entire community. The Director of Shop Operations primary goal is to direct shop staff’s work in the DIY shop and warehouse to ensure accessible access to cycling in our community while facilitating sustainable income streams and recycling efforts. Through education, leadership, shop sales and membership, the Director of Shop Operations fosters an empowering environment where all have access to bicycles. Job Responsibilities Bike Shop Leadership, Strategy, and Management Manage, organize and empower Shop Staff - Facilitator, Shop Coordinator, Sales lead and Mechanics/Educators. Create, implement and achieve budget and impact goals alongside your team, including: Recycled and new parts sales goals, including online sales , BBP Membership enrollment goals, Impact goals: shop offerings, people served, bicycles recycled Implement and maintain systems for refurbished bike builds, work trade programming and quality control standards and volunteer and staff development. Create and support impactful roles for volunteers to support shop, tear apart and warehouse/recycling operations Create, communicate and enact shop policies for customers, staff and volunteers. Set and maintain standards for inclusive and educational customer service on shop floor for Staff, Members, Volunteers and Program Participants Online Sales Systems and Maintenance Oversees BBP’s online sales systems and processes, ensuring the Ebay program is organized, efficient, and aligned with shop goals. Coordinates with the Sales Lead and shop staff to maintain a consistent flow of listings and shipments that support annual revenue targets. Provides guidance and structure for inventory organization, storage systems, and warehouse layout to support both in-shop and online operations. Ensures the warehouse remains clean, orderly, and safe workspaces that reflect BBP’s professional and community-focused values. Works with staff to identify opportunities to improve efficiency, space use, and product flow between donation intake, refurbishment, and online sales. Outreach about Shop Services and Membership Responsible for ideation and implementation of messaging and long term strategy in promotion of sales, membership and shop use Utilizes sales and marketing data to refine messaging and strategy in real time, promoting BBP’s retail space in several media streams Works with our Shop Facilitator to deliver, improve, and coordinate BBP’s membership materials, deliverables and enrollment campaigns Warehouse and Recycling Oversight Oversee warehouse organization and recycling processes to ensure safe, efficient, and sustainable operations. Maintains systems for recycling tracking, storage layout, and material flow throughout the warehouse. Coordinates with staff and volunteers to meet recycling goals and maintain orderly storage of donations, parts, and equipment. Supports interdepartmental needs by providing organized warehouse space for programs and events. Job Skills and Requirements 3+ years of experience in management/assistant management. Experience at a Bicycle coop or for-profit bike shop is a plus, but we’re specifically looking for on the job experience managing a budget as well as employees. Experience in running and organizing POS software, managing payroll and scheduling, inventory control, projecting budgets and analyzing sales and marketing data. Experience using social media, newsletters and other media to market and spread awareness about BBP shop services and sales.
