Heavy Equipment Operator

As a Heavy Equipment Operator on our Field Equipment team, you will operate a variety of heavy equipment (e.g., backhoes, skid loaders, wheel loaders) in support of utility construction and maintenance activities. This position will support our water, wastewater, gas, and electric crews based on business needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operating heavy equipment including, but not limited to, motor graders, track excavators, mobile cranes, track dozers, and digger derricks
• Operating Class A and B vehicles with a variety of trailers and tandem trucks
• Inspecting equipment and performing preventative maintenance on equipment and scheduling repairs
• Performing pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned equipment and documenting checks on standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report)
• Assisting with project planning and setting up job sites, and performing general labor activities as needed

Please note that this position requires being available for overtime and emergency callouts as business needs dictate.

Who You Are

• Ability to professionally and safely operate various types of trucks and heavy equipment
• Possession of a valid, unrestricted driver's license
• Possession of a Class A CDL or the ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds constantly to move objects. Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Medium Work. Positions in this class typically require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions. Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, workspace restrictions and intense noises. Positions in this class typically require exposure in all weather conditions.
