Tax Principal - Private Equity Fund Level

Overview Baker Tilly is a leading advisory, tax and assurance firm with a global presence across major U.S. regions and financial centers. The firm provides professional services through an alternative practice structure in accordance with professional standards. Responsibilities Lead tax services for Private Equity clients, serving as a trusted business advisor and managing day‑to‑day tax matters. Build and manage client relationships for middle‑market to multinational Private Equity funds. Consult on technical matters and special projects in corporate tax, including FAS 109 and FIN 48. Research tax issues, respond to IRS and other tax authority inquiries, and recommend solutions to clients. Coordinate with specialty tax practices on complex matters such as state/local, high‑net‑worth, international, research & development, and credit/incentive areas. Oversee tax‑planning responsibilities for federal and individual clients, review complex tax research on a wide range of business transaction issues. Manage client engagement staffing, billing and collections, ensuring profitability targets are met. Network and build relationships to acquire new clients and projects, participating in RFPs to pursue additional business. Collaborate with other service line leadership to develop tax service market positioning, branding, strategy and messaging. Support professional development and recruitment efforts, mentoring associates and helping them meet their goals. Recruit, develop, lead, and retain team members while demonstrating leadership, initiative, teamwork, and high ethical standards. Represent the firm at community events, firm functions, and other meetings. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s or advanced degree desirable. CPA or JD required. 15+ years of tax compliance and consulting experience in a professional service firm, preferably with Private Equity clients. 5+ years of supervisory experience, mentoring and counseling associates. Experience structuring fund‑level tax strategies for Private Equity clients. Strong management, analytical, organizational, interpersonal, project management, and communication skills. Commitment to continuous learning, ethical responsibilities, sense of urgency, and delivery of high‑quality, timely projects. Proficiency in advanced software and Microsoft Suite.
