Research Associate III

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Research Associate to lead a critical migration and modernization effort for a research library. This role is responsible for auditing an existing repository currently housed in legacy platforms, including Quip, and rebuilding it into a structured, searchable, and sustainable internal knowledge system. Working closely with a team of five researchers on the Books Research Team, this individual will design a taxonomy and metadata schema ensuring every document is accurately migrated, tagged, and organized. This is a rare opportunity to architect an entire research library with full access to Amazon's suite of AI tools, collaborating one-on-one with researchers to troubleshoot, refine, and present the evolving system to the broader team. Responsibilities Audit and inventory the existing research repository, evaluating documents for quality, relevancy, and currency Export, reformat, and relink documents from Quip and other legacy platforms into the new target file system Design and build a tag taxonomy and metadata schema — including eReader and Kindle-specific classifications — to support structured, searchable storage Migrate documents into the target platform with consistent metadata application and logical folder organization Operate within an AI-assisted pipeline for high-volume mechanical tasks, exercising independent judgment on edge cases and quality assurance that automation cannot resolve Collaborate one-on-one with Books Research Team members to work through ideas, troubleshoot issues, and refine the library structure Present taxonomy standards, migration progress, and system design decisions to the broader research team of five Document taxonomy standards and intake processes to support a smooth team handoff Surface blockers, scope risks, and regular progress updates to project stakeholders Skills Taxonomy design and controlled vocabulary development, including domain-specific tagging conventions Metadata schema design and information architecture Cloud-based file storage and document management systems Strong documentation and organizational skills with high accuracy across large document volumes Clear written communication for both technical documentation and stakeholder reporting Comfort with AI-assisted tools for document processing workflows Ability to work independently on milestone-based projects with minimal oversight Collaborative communication skills for working directly with researchers and presenting to small teams Experience 4–7 years of experience in information architecture, library science, knowledge management, or a closely related field Demonstrated experience designing metadata schemas, taxonomies, and controlled vocabularies Hands‑on experience with cloud-based storage platforms and document management systems Experience supporting research or knowledge management teams preferred Familiarity with legacy platform migrations, particularly involving relinking and reformatting documents Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a closely related field required Master's degree in Library Science or Information Management strongly preferred and considered a significant advantage for success in this role This posting is for a contract assignment with Tundra Technical Solutions to provide services to Amazon. #J-18808-Ljbffr
