Mental Health Clinician II - Colorado Mental Health Hospital in Fort Logan (Denver)

About This Position This position provides therapeutic psychiatric care for adults with acute and chronic mental illness. The clinician works under the supervision of a registered nurse, assists with nursing care, and participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning. Duties include therapeutic interactions, group facilitation, and crisis intervention. Responsibilities Build therapeutic relationships with patients, support psycho‑educational groups, and encourage skill development. Advocate for patients and their families, address concerns, and provide education on rights and services. Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADL) such as hygiene, laundry, and toileting; escort patients to activities and appointments. Maintain confidential patient records, document care, and keep nursing and treatment teams informed of status and issues. Monitor the unit’s milieu, conduct safety checks, and intervene using crisis prevention techniques (VDI, CPI) to de‑escalate aggression. Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings, contribute to treatment plans, and advocate for patient input. Perform additional duties as assigned to support the division’s mission. Minimum Qualifications Four (4) years of relevant experience in a related occupation, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional experience in inpatient mental health or a similar setting, with documented competency in the duties described. Valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license; ability to work day, evening, or night shifts. At least 21 years of age. Current or prior state employee status without a disqualifying disciplinary record. Preferred Qualifications 1+ year as a Mental Health Care Clinician I at a Colorado mental health institute. Experience in a psychiatric locked/secure setting. Experience running treatment groups and skills training. Knowledge of Trauma‑Informed Care and Recovery Principles. College or university education in nursing, psychology, sociology, human services, or related field. Highly Desirable Competencies Strong oral and written communication skills. Judgment and discretion in applying policies and procedures. Initiative, teamwork, and customer‑service orientation. Problem‑solving ability, integrity, and accountability. Conditions of Employment Full background and reference checks required. Shift work – must be able to work days, evenings, or nights. Essential Services Designation – must report promptly for essential or emergency services. Driver’s license, age 21+, bodily fluid exposure possible.
