Not only do they perform all kitchen and food prep duties, but they also provide valuable life skills and job training to Marin County Jail incarcerated persons. Under general supervision, the incumbent in this position will prepare, cook and serve food in the Marin County Jail; clean equipment and maintain health and safety regulations in the kitchen facilities; and direct kitchen incarcerated person workers in food preparation service and cleanup activities. The current position requires work on assigned shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays. There is currently one (1) full time regular hire vacancy within the Marin County Sheriff’s Office. The eligible list from this recruitment will also be used to fill future vacancies (regular, fixed term, full-time, part-time, contingent) in other County departments. ABOUT YOU: Our Highly Qualified Candidate: The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of the procedures and equipment required to prepare and serve a high volume of meals in an institutional setting and of the necessary safety and sanitation procedures related to the preparation and storage of food in a high volume setting. In addition, the ideal candidate will have experience following menus and recipes and coordinating food preparation to ensure that food is ready at established times. The ideal candidate must also have the ability to supervise and work with incarcerated persons in the jail. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Any combination of education and experience that would provide the knowledge and skills listed below. Typically, equivalent to one (1) year of food preparation, service and clean up in a large institutional or similar volume setting. Candidates must pass a sanitation and safety certification course immediately after hire. Personal Appearance Standards - Tattoos: No tattoo or body art that is offensive, demeaning, or prejudicial to good order shall be visible. Examples of offensive tattoos include but are not limited to those that exhibit or advocate discrimination, those that exhibit gang, supremacist, or extremist group affiliation, and those that depict or promote drug use, sexually explicit acts, or other obscene material. Disaster Service Workers: All County of Marin employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect.
