Summary/Objective 

The Education and Outreach Specialist manages and continuously improves Habitat’s education and community outreach programs. This position independently coordinates program delivery, evaluates participation and outcomes, recommends improvements, and supports effective, accessible programming aligned with organizational priorities. In partnership with the Homeownership Program Specialist, the Specialist develops and carries out outreach strategies, builds community and referral relationships, represents Habitat at events and partner engagements, and helps connect clients and community members with relevant programs and resources. The position also collaborates across departments, manages multiple priorities and stakeholder needs, and serves as a resource for education and outreach activities.

Essential Functions

• Independently plan, manage, and evaluate Habitat’s education and outreach programs to ensure alignment with organizational priorities, participant needs, funding requirements, and applicable program standards.
• Analyze program participation, participant feedback, community needs, outcomes, and emerging trends to identify service gaps and opportunities; recommend and implement improvements to program delivery, engagement strategies, processes, and resources.
• Exercise independent judgment in determining appropriate methods, priorities, delivery approaches, and resource needs for education and outreach activities within established organizational guidelines.
• Serve as the HUD-certified staff representative for First-Time Homebuyer Workshops; apply applicable HUD requirements, identify potential compliance concerns, and coordinate appropriate corrective action with Programs leadership.
• In partnership with the Homeownership Program Specialist, develop and execute outreach strategies designed to increase awareness of Habitat programs and services, strengthen referral networks, and improve community participation.
• Develop, cultivate, and manage relationships with community organizations, referral partners, presenters, governmental entities, and other stakeholders; evaluate partnership opportunities and recommend collaborations that support program and organizational goals.
• Represent Habitat at community meetings, presentations, outreach events, and partner engagements, using sound judgment to communicate program information, address questions, resolve concerns, and identify opportunities for collaboration.
• Develop and oversee participant and community communications, educational materials, presentations, digital resources, and outreach content, ensuring information is accurate, accessible, timely, and aligned with organizational standards in coordination with Marketing and Communications.
• Maintain oversight of program records, data, schedules, and reporting processes to ensure accurate and timely information is available for program management, compliance, grant reporting, outcome measurement, and leadership decision-making.
• Interpret applicable program requirements, internal procedures, funding guidelines, and organizational expectations; identify potential issues or inconsistencies and determine appropriate resolution, recommendation, or escalation.
• Serve as a subject-matter resource and advisor to Programs leadership regarding education programming, outreach strategies, participant engagement, community resources, program trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement.
• Coordinate cross-functional initiatives with Homeownership, Housing Counseling, Preservation, Volunteer Services, Marketing and Communications, and other departments to align resources, resolve program needs, and support division priorities and special initiatives.
• Independently manage multiple programs, projects, stakeholder relationships, deadlines, and competing priorities while maintaining program quality, compliance, responsiveness, and established performance expectations.
• Facilitate and lead virtual and in-person workshops, classes, presentations, and meetings, adapting content, delivery methods, and engagement approaches based on participant needs and program objectives.
• Maintain current knowledge of relevant educational practices, community resources, outreach strategies, regulatory requirements, industry trends, and technology tools; recommend appropriate applications to strengthen program effectiveness.
• Perform other related duties consistent with the level of responsibility, independent judgment, and scope of the position in support of Programs Division and organizational priorities.

Work Environment

This role routinely involves standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, reach with hands/arms, listen, and communicate. The employee must be capable of lifting and/or moving up to 20 pounds on a as needed basis and will occasionally be required to stand and walk for extended periods of time consistent with a typical office environment.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work 

This is a full-time, hourly position and the office hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some early mornings, evenings, and weekends may be required.

Travel 

Travel, if any, is primarily local during business hours and mileage is reimbursed.

  Required Education and Experience 

• Associate degree in education, human services, nonprofit management, communications, business administration, public administration, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English and Spanish. 
• Experience and knowledge developing, writing and editing content. 
• Minimum one (1) to two (2) years of relevant experience in program coordination, education, community outreach, client services, nonprofit programs, administrative support, or a related field.
• Experience coordinating classes, workshops, trainings, events, or other educational/program activities.
• Experience working with clients, participants, community members, presenters, or external partners.
• Experience with data entry, recordkeeping, reporting, scheduling, and maintaining accurate program documentation.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and effectively use CRM, registration, email marketing, and virtual meeting platforms.
• Experience facilitating or supporting virtual meetings, classes, or workshops using Teams, Zoom or a similar platform.
• Demonstrated experience presenting information and facilitating discussions with groups, including comfort speaking to diverse audiences.
• Must obtain and maintain annually Anti-Money Laundering certificate within first 90 days: training provided by Habitat. 
• Must obtain and maintain annually Safeguarding certificate within first 90 days: training provided by Habitat.
• Must obtain and maintain annually Housing Counseling certificate within first 90 days; training provided by Habitat.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in education, communications, public administration, nonprofit management, community development, human services, social sciences, or a related field.
• Five or more years of related program, education, outreach, or community engagement experience.
• Experience in affordable housing, homeownership education, housing counseling, financial education, community development, or a nonprofit environment.
• Experience supporting grant-funded or compliance-driven programs, including program reporting or outcome tracking.
• Experience developing community outreach strategies, educational programming, or participant engagement initiatives.
• Knowledge of Central Florida community resources and referral networks. Experience using Salesforce, HomeKeeper, Eventbrite, Mailchimp, or similar systems.
