Machine Operator (Coating)

Location: Matthews Pay: $20.00/hr Shifts: Rotating schedule 30 days on first shift, 30 days on second shift, 30 days on third shift. Must be willing to work all shifts.

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Coating Assistant Operator I to join our production team. This role plays a key part in ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality operation of our coating equipment. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-minded, and eager to learn.

Key Responsibilities

• Follow all company safety rules, regulations, and policies.
• Identify and respond to potential safety hazards (machine guarding, light curtains, pinch points, LOTO, SDS, grounding, e-stops, fire alarms, evacuations).
• Lift up to 50 lbs. multiple times during a shift.
• Learn and operate online support equipment: HMI's (SCADA/Wonder Ware), camera systems, thickness gauges, UV lights, viscometers, corona treaters, web cleaners, edge guides.
• Develop understanding of TPM (Preventive Maintenance), FIFO, material usage, and charging.
• Perform Make Ready tasks: die setups, pump setups, hose making, feed system assembly, and parts cleaning.
• Set up, start up, and run coating machines as required.
• Troubleshoot and resolve basic equipment and quality issues.
• Maintain quality standards and follow quality system procedures.
• Handle materials to support production and maintain accurate records of time and materials.
• Work effectively in a team environment while maintaining good housekeeping standards.
• Complete powered industrial vehicle certification (if required).
• Participate in training, team projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Ability to read, write, and follow instructions.
• Basic math skills (calculator use required).
• Computer literacy (retrieve emails and electronic information).
• Ability to read a tape measure accurately.
• Strong organizational and housekeeping skills.
• Good physical condition, motor control, and hand/eye coordination.
• Self-motivated and able to work with limited supervision.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to work rotating shifts (30 days per shift cycle).
