Leads the program/project management on the most visible and complex healthcare initiatives for Stanford Medicine Children’s Health. Serves as a portfolio manager and leads end‑to‑end program management for all enterprise operations initiatives in the PMO portfolio, including program charter development, integrated scheduling, budget tracking, risk management, and benefits realization. Builds long term relationships and forms interdisciplinary teams that include participation from patient care, research and education mission areas. Responsible for the overall execution and delivery of strategic program & portfolio objectives and deliverables; providing recommendations on scope, schedule, resources, budget and risks. This role provides enterprise‑level leadership, strategic execution, and operational oversight for the most complex, cross‑cutting hospital and academic programs focused on evidence‑based care pathway standardization, access flow optimization, clinical operations, workforce model redesign, staffing structure optimization, operational efficiency, quality improvement, safety, patient experience, health equity, and value‑based care. This position functions as an execution partner for the most complex programs, translating strategic priorities into actionable programs, ensuring disciplined implementation, and aligning clinicians, data, and operations to achieve measurable improvements in outcomes. The role requires exceptional executive function, change management capability, and the ability to operate effectively across clinical, analytical, operational, and governance domains in a highly matrixed environment. Leads program/project management on the most visible and complex healthcare initiatives for Stanford Medicine Children’s Health. Leads end‑to‑end program management for all enterprise and clinical operations initiatives in the PMO portfolio, including program charter development, integrated scheduling, budget tracking, risk management, and benefits realization. Serves as the primary PMO relationship owner for stakeholder engagement and communication throughout program lifecycles. Builds long term relationships and forms interdisciplinary teams that include participation from patient care, research and education mission areas. Functions with full authority for the execution and delivery of strategic program & portfolio objectives and deliverables; providing recommendations on scope, schedule, resources, budget and risks. This role provides enterprise‑level leadership, strategic execution, and operational oversight for complex, cross‑cutting hospital and academic programs focused on quality improvement, safety, patient experience, health equity, and value‑based care. Leads the strategy, evaluation, reporting, tracking and execution of complex projects and initiatives for the organization as well as for assigned department(s) and functional area(s). Coordinates and manages the programming, planning, implementation and monitoring of complex organization‑wide projects, initiatives and ongoing efforts. In partnership with the senior leadership and clinical stakeholders, the position uses data, SWOTs and focus groups to analyze issues in order to identify projects that support strategic plans and goals. Serves as a leader of interdisciplinary programs on an enterprise level. Position works with executive management and coordinates dynamic teams of individuals to meet business objectives, schedules, and outcomes. Directs and integrates the most complex projects, programs and initiatives in consultation with senior leadership. Provides end‑to‑end leadership for strategy development, program design, implementation, performance monitoring, and sustainability across hospital‑and system‑level initiatives that rely on data, analytics, clinician engagement, and continuous improvement methodologies. Translates priorities into clearly defined roadmaps, governance structures, performance metrics, and implementation plans. Develops new programs and evolves existing initiatives from concept through full implementation and operationalization, ensuring alignment with institutional strategy and regulatory requirements. Oversees a portfolio of complex, interdependent initiatives in consultation with senior leadership. Applies rigorous program and project management disciplines, including scope definition, milestones, dependencies, risk management, and issue resolution. Establishes mechanisms for performance management, including dashboards, reporting structures, and executive updates. Provides new and innovative ideas, techniques, and opportunities to the forefront to foster continuous improvement in strategy execution. Facilitates cross‑functional relationships with key stakeholders to align goals, strategy, and deliverables. Partners closely with analytics, informatics, and data governance teams to ensure high‑quality, reliable data is translated into actionable insights for clinicians and leaders. Identifies when project proposals are warranted by using data analytics, survey data, SWOTs, workforce planning, and focus groups. Conducts a root cause analysis and problem statement. Supports the development and use of common data models, performance measurement frameworks, and learning health system approaches. Facilitates effective collaboration between clinicians, data scientists, and operational leaders to drive evidence‑based improvement. Oversees compliance with institutional policies, regulatory requirements, and external partnership obligations. Implements quality control measures to ensure project compliance with department, hospital, and university policies, government codes and regulations. Ensures conformance to the requirements of all project participants. Develops and oversees program budgets, including forecasting, monitoring, and variance analysis. In collaboration with senior leadership, develops and presents business cases to obtain program/project sponsorship, budget, and resource allocation. Ensures efficient and responsible stewardship of funds while advancing strategic objectives. Guides resource allocation decisions across staff, analytics, and operational investments. Manages, assesses, and documents project scope and program, describing the objectives, stakeholder identification, resource requirements, parameters, risks and benefits, timelines and tracks communication and performance against goals. Develops and maintains project charters to include purpose, objectives, scope, risk mitigation, metrics, timeline, communication plan and deliverables. Documents current and future‑state processes and oversees the development and implementation of operational workflows. Manages communications on a regular and timely basis, ensuring that all project participants are informed of project status, barriers, and required actions. Creates communication and change management plans for all types of stakeholders. Conducts project debrief sessions, identifies lessons learned, and applies the lessons learned to future projects. Lead the development and management of implementation plans for complex projects. In collaboration with applicable partners, develops and implements training around project deliverables that result in changes in process, procedures, policy, etc. Manages program‑level risk registers, interdependency maps, stakeholder communication plans; escalates unresolved issues to the PMO Director in a timely manner. Serves as a lead for other PMO staff and provides direction, scope guidance and overall oversight of less experienced PMO staff. Monitors productivity, triages and assigns work, trains new members, monitors progress, establishes work standards and provides input including performance appraisals. Provides input and analysis to help inform decision‑making on new PMO programs and initiatives. Monitors PMO metrics and service level agreements (SLAs) on regular cadence and provides proactive recommendation to adhere to turnaround times. Responsible for developing, updating and maintaining standard process documents. Serves as the subject matter expert and the escalation point for the PMO. Represents the PMO organization wide task forces & steering committees. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying. Education: Bachelor's Degree in a work‑related discipline / field from an accredited college or university. Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., healthcare administration, public health, analytics, business, or related discipline) is preferred. Experience: Seven (7) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience. Extensive project or program experience in large‑scale clinical operations, hospital throughput, care delivery redesign, workforce programs, and/or staffing model redesign. License / Certification: Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is preferred. Lean or Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Demonstrated senior‑level leadership and the ability to influence across multiple organizational boundaries. Advanced expertise in program and project management for complex, enterprise initiatives. Strong background in healthcare data, analytics, performance measurement, and quality improvement. Proven ability to lead change management and implement strategy in clinically complex environments. Excellent strategic thinking, analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills. Strong financial acumen, including budget development, monitoring, and forecasting. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with credibility among clinicians, executives, and external partners. Ability to foster effective working relationships and build consensus. Ability to plan, organize, prioritize, work independently and meet deadlines. Knowledge of Windows‑based office software, computers and operating systems. Knowledge of research processes, data development, data analysis, syndicated data and consumer information resources. Experience in using effective project management tools and methods. Ability to work in a matrix environment with multiple stakeholders and clients. Ability to conduct research, conduct analysis, reach conclusions, and present findings. Additional Information Pay Range Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role. Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.
