Director of Financial Planning and Analysis

We are currently seeking a Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) to lead financial planning, forecasting, and strategic finance activities during a pivotal phase of clinical development and growth. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, this role will be a key partner to the executive team, supporting decision‑making through rigorous financial analysis, capital modeling, cash runway management, and scalable financial processes.

This is a hands‑on leadership role ideal for a finance professional with experience building FP&A capabilities in a pre‑commercial or high‑growth biotech environment. This position is based in Berkeley, CA and requires 3 days a week in-office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Lead the company’s annual operating plan, long‑range plan, and rolling forecasts, with a strong focus on cash burn, runway analysis, and scenario modeling.
• Develop and maintain integrated financial, capital, and valuation models, including NPV, scenario, and sensitivity analyses to support R&D prioritization, portfolio decisions, and strategic planning.
• Partner with the CFO on capital modeling, financing scenarios, and long‑term value creation analyses.
• Collaborate with R&D, Clinical, CMC, and G&A leaders to support budgeting, resource allocation, and program‑level financial assessments.
• Prepare board‑ and investor‑ready financial analyses and presentations, including key assumptions, drivers, and downside/upside cases.
• Monitor performance versus budget and forecast; identify risks, opportunities, and key drivers.
• Support month‑end close procedures (e.g., R&D accruals).
• Support management’s internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR), including the operation and review of FP&A‑related controls, SOX readiness activities, and collaboration with Accounting and external advisors.
• Help build scalable FP&A processes and infrastructure appropriate for a growing biotech company, including future public‑company readiness.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field. MBA, CPA, CFA preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive finance experience, including senior‑level FP&A leadership.
• Prior experience in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or life sciences; development‑stage or pre‑commercial experience strongly preferred.
• Deep expertise in financial modeling, valuation, and capital planning, including NPV‑based analyses.
• Experience preparing materials for executive leadership and boards of directors.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to influence senior stakeholders.
• Experience supporting SOX readiness, IPO preparation, or public‑company finance operations preferred.

Compensation Range and Benefits

• For this role, the anticipated base salary range: $230,000 to $250,000, based on the candidate's professional experience level. The final salary offered for this position may take into account a number of factors including, but not limited to skills, education, and experience.
