Full-Time | Heavy Civil, Earthwork, Dredging & Marine Construction

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Estimator to support our estimating and preconstruction team in our Pompano Beach Office. Our company performs earthwork, dredging, marine construction, dewatering, site development, and other heavy civil construction projects. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is organized, comfortable working with numbers and spreadsheets, has strong computer and writing skills, and is interested in learning the estimating and operational side of heavy construction.

Primary Responsibilities

·         Assist estimators with preparation of project bids and cost estimates.

·         Develop and maintain Excel spreadsheets, bid worksheets, cost  comparisons, quantity summaries, and historical pricing data.

·         Research materials, equipment, subcontractors, disposal facilities, trucking, labor, testing, permitting, and other project costs.

·         Contact vendors and subcontractors to obtain quotes, pricing, lead times, and scope information.

·         Organize and compare quotations to ensure bid coverage and identify missing scope or cost exposure.

·         Review construction plans, specifications, bid documents, permits, addenda, and related project requirements.

·         Assist with quantity takeoffs for excavation, fill, dredging, trucking, disposal, piping, dewatering, and related work.

·         Assist in identifying project risks, unusual requirements, and cost items that may affect an estimate.

·         Help prepare pre bid summaries, work plans, project narratives, technical submittals, RFIs, schedules, bid forms, and proposal documents.

·         Assist with writing and formatting professional correspondence, proposals, presentations, and internal estimating summaries.

·         Maintain organized electronic bid files, quote logs, vendor information, and subcontractor contacts.

·         Track bid dates, amendments, required forms, subcontractor quotes, and submission deadlines.

·         Assist estimators and project managers with special research, production studies, and cost-analysis assignments.

·         Help develop production assumptions for equipment, crews, trucking, dredging, excavation, pumping, and material handling.

·         Use online research resources and modern technology, including AI tools, to assist with document review, comparisons, research, and preparation of written materials.

·         Coordinate with estimating, operations, project management, vendors, subcontractors, and suppliers as needed.

Work on Development of Work Plans, Submittals, and Project Materials.

Qualifications

·         Strong Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PDF software skills.

·         Good written and verbal communication skills.

·         Ability to research information, make phone calls, gather pricing, and summarize findings clearly.

·         Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.

·         Comfort working with numbers, quantities, cost comparisons, and basic construction calculations.

·         Previous experience in construction, estimating, engineering, project coordination, purchasing, accounting, or administrative support is helpful but not required.

·         Experience with heavy civil, earthwork, dredging, marine construction, or site development is a plus.

·         Ability and willingness to learn estimating software, takeoff tools, construction terminology, and company procedures.
