Communications Intern

Breakwater Strategy – an advisory partner on high-visibility, high-stakes public affairs, corporate reputation and capital markets issues for leading businesses, nonprofits and associations – is seeking highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented students for a part-time internship in the Fall of 2026. As an intern, you would be part of a growing team of strategic communication professionals who help organizations navigate their most complex and consequential moments – helping to minimize risk and accelerate opportunity. We are currently looking for students in their junior or senior year who can dedicate at least 20 hours/week across 4 days/week. The position is paid, and would be remote or hybrid with East Coast working hours (9am-6pm ET). We typically ask that our interns work in at least half-day blocks (e.g. 9am-2pm or 12-6pm). Role & Responsibilities Monitor media, policy developments, and online conversations for clients Conduct qualitative desk research for new business and existing clients Build and maintain press lists Develop content such as blogs, memos, briefing books, and social media posts for clients Participate during internal brainstorm calls when developing communications strategy for clients Proofread, edit and fact check client-facing collateral Provide general support to the internal team as needed Candidates should be: A lifelong learner (you’ll be seated at the edge of some of the world’s most innovative emerging technologies and business models) Entrepreneurial (you’re driven, creative, and prepared to take initiative to help clients move the needle in their respective industries, every day) Politically-minded and interested in shaping public opinion and influencing the regulatory ecosystem Trustworthy (you’ll work with confidential information and clients) Detail-oriented and able to produce polished work Organized and able to balance multiple assignments and deadlines A strong writer and editor References and writing samples may be requested.
