PCU Registered Nurse for Open Heart Progressive Care

Assignment Duration

This is a 13-week contract position.

Schedule

Night shift: 4x12-hour shifts (19:00 - 07:00) with every other weekend required.

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse (RN) specializing in open heart care. The RN will be responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to post-operative open heart and other cardiothoracic surgical patients requiring cardiac monitoring. This role includes accepting medical/surgical overflow patients.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients in the PCU, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
• Manage a patient ratio of 4:1, ensuring effective monitoring and care delivery.
• Assist with chest tube insertion, management, and removal; central line management; and external/internal pacemaker care.
• Administer critical medications and manage drips such as Amiodarone, Cardizem, Insulin, Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, and Argatroban.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including IV teams, physical therapy, respiratory services, and social services.

Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure

• Minimum of 2 years of RN experience required.
• Current WV RN license or compact license required.
• Certification in BLS and ACLS through the American Heart Association (AHA) is mandatory.
• Preferred experience with telemetry, high-acuity patients, and cardiac care.
• Ability to float to meet facility needs as required.
