Job Title: RN II OB/Postpartum - New to Specialty Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: OB/Postpartum Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: Not specified Experience: One year of acute care experience required License: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice required Certifications: - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required - Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 60 days of hire Must-Have: - Must be willing and able to cross train for postoperative GYN and stable antepartum patients Description: The OB/GYN New Grad Nurse is responsible for orientating to the planning and provision of nursing care to patients and their families during the antepartum, postpartum, and postoperative periods. This includes managing emergency situations effectively. The nurse will supervise and delegate care responsibilities to ancillary personnel commensurate with their scope of practice. Competently completes a gestational and a comprehensive newborn assessment. Consistently recognizes and reports any variances from normal. Competently performs standard postpartum physical assessments including the status of fundus, lochia, perineum, and breasts. Recognizes and reports any variance from the normal postoperative course. Performs physical and psychosocial assessments of all patients, demonstrating knowledge and consideration of age-specific and cultural differences. Demonstrates appropriate clinical judgment in managing perinatal, postpartum, and other women's postoperative emergencies. Provides caring support to grieving families. Educates patients and families in all stages of the postpartum or postoperative period using methods appropriate to age, condition, culture, and learning readiness. Initiates a multidisciplinary, goal-oriented care plan for each patient in collaboration with members of the healthcare team and provides care based on that plan. Completes legible, accurate, and timely documentation of all nursing care provided, including evaluations of patients' responses to medications, treatments, and procedures. Consistently performs necessary unit-specific safety and quality control checks. Identifies and communicates opportunities to improve care, services, and unit operations. Remains open to change and reaching new goals for the unit. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
