Shift Supervisor For Municipal Transfer Station

Astute's People is partnering with a leading solid fuel plant owner and operator to recruit a Shift Supervisor for its Municipal Transfer Station, located in Queens NY. This key facility is integral in the transportation of municipal waste prior to being incinerated at the client's Wate Incineration Power Stations. Responsibilities and duties Reporting to the Operations Manager you will:

• Supervise daily operations during assigned shift, ensuring safe, efficient, and compliant facility performance.
• Provide leadership and direction to site personnel, including operators, mechanics, and support staff.
• Oversee shift activities through routine site tours, providing technical oversight and enforcing operational standards.
• Ensure all equipment is operated and maintained according to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and safety regulations.
• Approve and manage all equipment maintenance requests and ensure equipment is properly cleared, tagged, and documented before being removed from service.
• Monitor overall site operations, including crane and material handling systems, adjusting and directing activities as needed to maintain productivity and safety.
• Take direct control during emergency or abnormal operations, coordinating staff and executing corrective actions as necessary.
• Support the implementation of technical and safety training programs for shift staff, promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Professional qualifications We are looking for someone with the following:

• At least 5 years experience as Control Room Operator / Supervisor in a Transfer Station environment. Similar environments such as Power Plants, Refineries, Chemical Plants and Heavy Industrial Operations will also be considered.
• HS/GED diploma required as a minimum
• Degree would be advantageous

Personal skills The Shift Supervisor role would suit someone who is:

• Happy working on a rotating shift pattern.
• Computer literate.
• Detailed orientated with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to walk, stand, sit, and climb
• Ability to lift/carry 50lbs
• Ability to work from heights and in confined spaces
• Qualify to wear a full-face respirator
• Consistently work in various weather conditions
