Welcome to Symbium's Citizen's Dashboard! Permit applications submitted through Symbium are instantly approved for issuance. This is because the applicable compliance checks are performed in real time, ensuring that every permit application is correct and complete. Key to this advance is Symbium's proprietary computational law (or Complaw®) technology, which enables a TurboTax-like mechanization of legal analyses through software in a swift and lean manner, initially developed by the founding team at Stanford's AI Lab. In July 2023, Symbium launched a permitting pilot that allows California cities to grant instant permits for electrification and other critical decarbonization projects. From solar panel installations to EV chargers, heat pumps, re-roofing, and beyond, we're leading the charge in accelerating the adoption and installation of these technologies. With partnerships already secured with 21 California jurisdictions for the permitting pilot, there's no stopping us. Role & Responsibilities The availability of high quality, structured data is key to Symbium’s Complaw-enabled automation, and the generation of accurate and complete compliance analyses. Symbium Citizen’s Dashboard is powered by a robust layer of structured data concerning properties, e.g., location data, land use and characteristics that affect project feasibility. We are looking for talented data-engineers and scientists to establish and maintain robust data-pipelines to authoritative sources of data. In this role, you will be expected to: Find authoritative sources of structured data, and create scripts to extract this data. Work closely with our software team to set up a data transformation pipeline to clean and standardize the collected data. Build internal tools to streamline our ETL processes. Meet tight deadlines Work with: PostgreSQL / PostGIS Neo4J and the Cypher querying language NodeJS scripting Python scripting (with data analysis tools like Pandas) Experience & Qualifications Our ideal candidate is a creative problem solver who loves to work with data (and is good at it!). This candidate should have a good understanding of the best-practices necessary to work with large datasets. They should also display the flexibility required to work in a fast-paced startup environment and know when to ask questions. In particular, we are looking for someone who meets the following requirements: Requirements Has 2-3 years of experience working with relational databases (especially PSQL). Has experience working with large datasets. Has 1-3 years of experience with scripting languages (e.g., NodeJS, Python). Has worked with data parsing and cleaning libraries. Is a team player who is passionate about being a part of a tight-knit and nimble team. Is willing to learn new skills on the job. Nice to haves Experience with graph databases (e.g., Neo4J) Experience working with geo-spatial data or libraries (e.g., GDAL, Turf) Knowledge of data analysis tools (e.g., Pandas, or NLP tools) Background working with government data / using technology to solve problems in the regulatory space Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis and be willing to relocate to California prior to the start of employment.
