Senior Statutory Accountant

Job Summary Independence American Insurance Company (IAIC), a subsidiary of Independence Pet Holdings, seeks a hybrid Senior Accountant to analyze large premium and claims data, book journal entries, and apply a strong understanding of GAAP and STAT. The role encompasses accounting responsibilities, analysis, and collaborative stakeholder engagement. Main Responsibilities Assist with Statutory Quarterly and Annual statement preparation, including critical exhibits such as Supplemental Accident and Health exhibits, Schedule F/S, Schedule H, Schedule P, and Schedule F. Collaborate with other departments to gather detailed data necessary for assigned statements. Support external and regulatory reviews, audits, and examinations as required. Contribute to various projects, analysis, and related duties to aid department management. Assist with completion of state filings and forms. Handle routine to complex corporate accounting reporting and analysis. Review and prepare journal entries in accordance with STAT and GAAP principles. Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP/STAT reporting and closing processes. Prepare financial statement workpapers, reconciliations, and analysis to ensure accuracy and provide commentary on financial results. Substantiate reconciliations for bank accounts, claim funds, funds held, and other balance sheet and expense accounts. Mentor and support staff by providing guidance, reviewing work, and fostering professional development. Perform other job functions necessary for proper department management. Basic Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field. Minimum of 2–3 years of accounting experience. Proficient in Microsoft Office with strong Excel skills and experience with general ledger software. Ability to analyze and solve problems. Self‑motivated, disciplined, organized, and enthusiastic.
