Director of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program Position Title: Director of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Program Job Summary The Director of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Program of the Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) programs, along with the postgraduate PMHNP Certificate, promotes strategic partnerships to increase visibility, engagement, and integration of the program and certificate within the College, the University, and the broader community. The Director leads, administers, and manages financial and human resources, student development, and teaching duties, working closely with faculty, staff, students, and community partners. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability to communicate with others, both in person and by using computers, telephones, and written communications; interact effectively with administration, faculty, staff, students, and external contacts. Ability to provide academic and professional leadership in policy formulation. Ability to handle detail‑oriented assignments and maintain confidentiality. Ability to use a personal computer, access information through the Internet, and communicate via e‑mail. Ability to work with and cooperate with supervisory personnel at all levels. Organizational skills necessary for prioritizing workload and delegating responsibility. Knowledge of historic and current nursing education practices and standards. Knowledge and skill with the application of computer‑based learning principles and practices. Knowledge and skill with the application of distance learning principles and standards. Demonstrated commitment to working in an organization that values and promotes humanism. Key Responsibilities Serve as a member of the university and college community via committee membership and service. Member of the CGN Executive Leadership Team (Directors/Assistant and Associate Deans). Promote collegiality through respectful communication to foster a culture of respect, integrity, collaboration, and transparency in the College of Graduate Nursing. Integrate initiatives with other Directors of the DNP program tracks. Chair the PMHNP Program meeting and at least one other CGN committee. Develop and oversee a systematic planning process to facilitate and improve the PMHNP program to meet its goals and objectives. Ensure program quality to meet state, national, and professional accreditation standards. Develop the SQIP process measuring program and student outcomes aligned with institutional learning outcomes and college mission, including course maps, attrition, on‑time graduation, completion rates, employer satisfaction, hire rates, national certification pass rates, and student satisfaction. Analyze data every semester and annually with faculty and staff, report findings, and recommend budget resources, curricular changes, and program revisions to appropriate committees, the Assistant Dean of APRN, and the Dean. Develop, implement, evaluate, and advance educational, scholarly, and public service activities involving PMHNP initiatives in the community. Create, implement, and evaluate orientation programs for PMHNP students. Assume clinical oversight of clinical partnerships in collaboration with the PMHNP clinical coordinator and faculty. Design, implement, and evaluate recruitment events for the PMHNP program with the recruitment team. Serve as a member of CGN strategic planning and philanthropy committees to secure external funding (grants, foundations, gifts), participate in grant writing, and act as PI or co‑PI to expand resources. Participate or act as a project investigator for foundation, community, and federal grants. Participate in the screening and selection of faculty and staff. Develop programs to retain qualified faculty and staff. Ensure faculty development programs are conducted and mentor faculty, preceptors, and teaching assistants. Participate in the annual review of faculty and staff as appropriate. Encourage student involvement in the evaluation and development of the College’s academic program. Facilitate communication between the administration, faculty, and students to ensure a culture of mutual respect and professionalism. Represent faculty and administrators at student events. Assist with admissions interviews and ongoing recruitment efforts for the college. Administer standards for academic performance, progression, and student conduct. Advocate learner‑centered educational approaches and ensure students have access to necessary resources for successful learning and professional development. Teach the didactic and clinical portions of the curriculum; assist with PMHNP Master’s or Doctoral projects. Assist with the continuous quality improvement plan for the PMHNP curriculum and conduct a year‑end review of all activities. Participate in institutional and college committees. Make recommendations for ongoing faculty development. Represent the College of Graduate Nursing at meetings involving professional and educational associations, governmental agencies, hospitals, and other health‑care delivery organizations. Participate in professional societies and associations. Perform other duties and projects as assigned. Required Qualifications Education: Doctoral degree in Nursing; current California RN license; current California PMHNP license. Certification: Certification in PMHNP. Experience: Minimum one year in higher education or nursing administration (e.g., program director, department chair) and one year of full‑time teaching experience in Nursing. BRN approved for teaching in a required subject area. Preferred Qualifications Preferred qualifications not specified. Work Schedule Typically Monday‑Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, with flexibility to support a hybrid academic program. Availability for occasional college or university special events and weekend seminars (six times per year) is required. Physical Demands The essential functions of this job require the employee to frequently use hands to operate a PC, talk or hear, sit, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally stand, walk, stoop, and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Required vision abilities include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
