Engineering Manager, MAAS

Join Canonical as an Engineering Manager, MAAS . Canonical is a leading provider of open‑source software and operating systems, with Ubuntu widely used in cloud, AI, and IoT. We are expanding the MAAS team. MAAS (“Metal as a Service”) provides a cloud‑style API for private bare‑metal infrastructure. The role leads engineering that spans hardware detection, provisioning, and the web & API interface on a Python & Go code base. Responsibilities Lead a distributed team of engineers across time zones. Coach, mentor, give feedback and plan career development. Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders. Advocate and advance modern software development practices. Participate in code and architectural reviews. Engage with internal teams, open‑source community and partners. Travel to internal and external global events for 4–6 weeks per year. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field. Experience delivering software using Python, Golang or similar languages. Linux system administration (Debian or Ubuntu preferred). Familiarity with modern Linux cloud technologies: networking, storage, containers, Kubernetes. Strong technical aptitude for complex distributed systems. Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills. Experience with agile software development methodologies. Ability to mentor and develop team members. Result‑oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments. Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks. Nice‑to‑Have Experience with TypeScript and modern web frameworks (React, Angular, Svelte, Vue). Data center infrastructure management and design.
