POSITION SUMMARYThe Mobile Laboratory Medical Courier is responsible for the safe, timely, secure, and professional transportation of clinical laboratory specimens, biological materials, laboratory supplies, and related materials between patient locations, healthcare facilities, client locations, specimen consolidation centers, and MBIDX-designated laboratory locations.This position plays an important role in maintaining specimen integrity and supporting timely laboratory testing. The Medical Courier is responsible for following established procedures for specimen handling, transportation, temperature control, packaging, documentation, chain of custody, infection control, and confidentiality.The position requires extensive driving throughout an assigned territory, the ability to work independently, strong attention to detail, effective route and time management, and professional communication with clients, healthcare personnel, patients, laboratory personnel, and MBIDX operations staff.ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIESSpecimen Pickup & TransportationSafely pick up and transport clinical laboratory specimens, biological samples, and other authorized medical materials between designated locations.Verify that specimens are appropriately labeled, packaged, and accompanied by required documentation before transport.Maintain specimen integrity throughout transportation, including compliance with applicable temperature, storage, handling, and time requirements.Utilize appropriate transport containers, coolers, biohazard bags, absorbent materials, and other required transportation equipment.Maintain required chain-of-custody documentation and specimen tracking throughout the transportation process.Deliver specimens to designated laboratory or consolidation locations within established turnaround times.Immediately report leaking, damaged, improperly packaged, mislabeled, compromised, or otherwise unacceptable specimens in accordance with MBIDX procedures.Never leave specimens unattended or unsecured except as specifically permitted by MBIDX procedures.Supply Delivery & InventoryDeliver laboratory collection supplies and approved materials to healthcare facilities, clients, and other designated locations.Maintain an appropriate inventory of commonly required courier and specimen-transport supplies.Monitor supply levels and promptly communicate shortages or replenishment needs.Assist with stocking, organizing, and distributing laboratory supplies when assigned.Ensure supplies and specimens are appropriately separated and secured during transportation.Route Management & DispatchFollow assigned routes, pickup schedules, and delivery priorities while maintaining flexibility for urgent, STAT, or time-sensitive requests.Utilize approved GPS, routing, communication, and dispatch systems.Monitor traffic, weather, road conditions, and other factors that could affect specimen delivery.Promptly notify dispatch or management of delays, accidents, specimen concerns, missed pickups, client issues, or other circumstances affecting service.Organize routes efficiently while complying with all applicable traffic and safety laws.Respond appropriately to schedule and route changes throughout the workday.Documentation & Chain of CustodyAccurately document specimen pickups, deliveries, times, locations, and other required information.Maintain delivery receipts, electronic records, manifests, chain-of-custody documentation, and other required transportation records.Ensure documentation is complete, accurate, legible, and submitted within required timeframes.Protect patient information and other confidential information during transportation and documentation.Safety, Quality & ComplianceFollow MBIDX policies and procedures applicable to specimen transportation, infection control, exposure prevention, and workplace safety.Comply with applicable OSHA, Cal/OSHA, HIPAA, DOT, and other federal, California, and local requirements applicable to assigned duties.Follow established procedures for handling potentially infectious materials and biohazardous specimens.Use required personal protective equipment (PPE) when appropriate.Immediately report spills, exposures, accidents, injuries, damaged specimens, transportation incidents, or other safety concerns.Follow established spill-response and exposure-control procedures.Inspect transport containers, coolers, temperature-control equipment, and other assigned equipment and maintain them in clean and serviceable condition.Complete required safety, HIPAA, bloodborne-pathogen, specimen-handling, and other assigned training.CLIENT SERVICE & PROFESSIONALISMThe Mobile Laboratory Medical Courier serves as a field representative of MBIDX and is expected to:Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor.Provide courteous and professional service to clients, patients, facility personnel, healthcare providers, and laboratory personnel.Communicate clearly and professionally with MBIDX operations and dispatch personnel.Protect patient privacy and confidential information at all times.Avoid discussing patient information in public or unauthorized settings.Promptly escalate client concerns or service issues to management.Maintain professional relationships with MBIDX clients and healthcare partners.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSHigh school diploma or equivalent.Valid California drivers license.Driving record acceptable under MBIDXs driving and insurance requirements.Reliable personal vehicle suitable for performing assigned courier responsibilities.Current automobile insurance meeting California legal requirements and MBIDX policy requirements.Ability and willingness to travel extensively throughout the assigned territory.Ability to safely lift, carry, load, and transport items weighing up to approximately 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation.Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established procedures.Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.Strong organizational and time-management skills.Basic proficiency with smartphones, GPS navigation, mobile applications, email, and electronic documentation.Effective verbal and written communication skills.Ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriately handle sensitive patient information.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSPrevious medical, clinical laboratory, pharmacy, healthcare, or specimen courier experience.Experience transporting clinical laboratory specimens or biological materials.Familiarity with HIPAA and patient confidentiality requirements.Knowledge of biohazard handling, infection control, and specimen transportation procedures.Experience with chain-of-custody documentation.Familiarity with temperature-controlled specimen transportation.Experience with GPS navigation, route optimization, or mobile dispatch applications.Experience working with assisted living, skilled nursing, home health, hospice, physician office, or and are required to follow applicable exposure-control, infection-control, and safety procedures.SCHEDULE & AVAILABILITYWork schedules may vary based on laboratory volume, client requirements, assigned territory, and operational needs.The position may require availability for early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, urgent pickups, and STAT requests depending upon the employees assigned schedule.Employees are expected to maintain reliable attendance and promptly communicate delays or circumstances affecting their ability to complete assigned routes.TIMEKEEPING, MEAL & REST PERIODSThis position is classified as non-exempt.Employees must accurately record all hours worked and are prohibited from performing off-the-clock work. Overtime must be handled in accordance with MBIDX policy and applicable California and federal law.MBIDX provides legally required meal periods and paid rest periods in accordance with California law.
