Description: The key role of a phlebotomist is to aid in executing various assigned tasks, diagnosing issues, providing training, and suggesting improvements to work processes.

Responsibilities:

• Experience performing blood collections, labeling samples, spinning specimens, documenting maintenance details and decontamination, updating patient records, etc.
• Gathers and preserves specimens following established protocols.
• Clearly and politely explains the process of venipuncture (blood drawing) and other specimen collection procedures like urine or fecal samples. Demonstrates techniques using straight or butterfly needles.
• Comprehends all physicians orders. Matches lab requisition forms with specimen tubes, labels, spins, splits, and freezes samples according to test orders.
• Verifies all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy. Prepares specimens for transportation.
• Stores samples at appropriate temperatures as required, positions them correctly.
