About the Position

The Cardiovascular Cath Lab Technologist assists physicians with invasive cardiac and peripheral diagnostic and interventional procedures. This position is responsible for preparing procedure rooms, maintaining sterile technique, operating specialized cardiovascular equipment, monitoring patient hemodynamics, and supporting advanced circulatory-assistance devices, including Impella and intra-aortic balloon pumps.

The technologist must be able to work independently in a fast-paced procedural environment and participate in the department’s weekend, holiday, and on-call rotations.

Schedule

• Shift: Day shift, 7:00 a.m.–6:30 p.m.
• Hours: 40 hours per week
• Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts per week
• Weekends: Required as needed
• Holidays: One summer holiday and one winter holiday
• On-Call: Required; approximately 7–10 on-call shifts during the assignment
• Floating: Not required

Position Summary

The Cardiovascular Cath Lab Technologist assists physicians with invasive cardiac and peripheral diagnostic and interventional procedures. This position is responsible for preparing procedure rooms, maintaining sterile technique, operating specialized cardiovascular equipment, monitoring patient hemodynamics, and supporting advanced circulatory-assistance devices, including Impella and intra-aortic balloon pumps.

The technologist must be able to work independently in a fast-paced procedural environment and participate in the department’s weekend, holiday, and on-call rotations.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare procedure rooms, sterile trays, supplies, and specialized equipment for cardiac catheterization procedures.
• Assist physicians during diagnostic and interventional cardiac and peripheral vascular procedures.
• Support temporary and permanent pacemaker-placement procedures.
• Operate and assist with circulatory-support devices, including Impella and intra-aortic balloon pumps.
• Set up, calibrate, operate, and monitor hemodynamic equipment.
• Obtain, calculate, analyze, and document hemodynamic measurements, cardiac output, and oximetry readings.
• Operate power injectors and associated sterile equipment.
• Assist with patient positioning, preparation, monitoring, and post-procedure care.
• Recognize and interpret cardiac rhythms and arrhythmias.
• Assist with vascular access, sheath removal, radial-band application, and hemostasis.
• Maintain digital imaging and cardiovascular information systems.
• Follow radiation-safety, infection-prevention, and sterile-procedure protocols.
• Maintain inventory and ensure that procedure rooms are fully stocked and ready for use.
• Perform routine equipment inspections, maintenance, and quality-control checks.
• Participate in the department’s on-call rotation.
• Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, patients, and other members of the care team.

Required Experience

• Minimum of one year of recent Cardiac Cath Lab experience.
• Demonstrated experience supporting invasive cardiac procedures.
• Hands-on experience with Impella and intra-aortic balloon pump support is required.
• Strong knowledge of hemodynamic monitoring and sterile procedural techniques.
• Ability to recognize cardiac rhythms and respond appropriately during procedures.

Preferred Experience

• Three or more years of recent Cardiac Cath Lab experience.
• Experience assisting with permanent pacemaker placement.
• Mac-Lab experience.
• EPIC electronic medical record experience.
• Experience with cardiac and peripheral diagnostic and interventional procedures.

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Cardiovascular Technology, Radiologic Technology, Applied Science, or related healthcare program.
• Associate or bachelor’s degree in a health-science field preferred.

Required Certifications and Licensure

• Current Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association.
• Current radiologic certification or license, where required by state law.

Preferred Certifications

• ARRT certification.
• Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist certification.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.

Candidates who do not currently hold ACLS certification may be required to obtain it within three months of starting the assignment.
