About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Medical/Surgical Duration: 27 Weeks Shift: Full-Time, Day/Night Variable Hours per Shift: 36 hours per week + 2 on-call shifts in 4 weeks Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a Medical/Surgical environment as a Registered Nurse License: Registered Nurse Licensure in Client Certifications: BLS, ACLS (American Heart Association), NIHSS Must-Have: - 2 years' experience as a Registered Nurse in a Medical/Surgical setting Description: The Registered Nurse applies knowledge of nursing theory, technical, and communication skills in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to patients and families. The Registered Professional Nurse assesses patient needs and develops a plan of care in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. He/She provides direct care, evaluates patient progress, and coordinates care delivery throughout the patient's episode. The Registered Nurse on this unit develops specialized skills in the area of patients admitted for medical conditions. He/She provides care to adult, adolescent, and geriatric populations with medical conditions. The Registered Nurse is accountable for patient and family education to assist in understanding self-care beyond hospitalization. This includes discussing lifestyle changes to support health and healing. The Registered Nurse is expected to promote comfort and provide emotional support in a healing environment. Job Functions: Applies nursing knowledge and skill in the delivery of care. Assesses patient and family needs through active listening and analyzing information obtained through direct observation or assessment. Creates an individualized plan of care that is developmentally and age-appropriate, culturally relevant, and addresses identified health problems. In collaboration with the patient, family, physician, and healthcare team members, sets goals and monitors patient progress. Adjusts the plan based on patient response or change in condition. Promotes and advocates for the health, safety, and rights of the patient. Encourages and builds mutual trust, respect, and cooperation among team members to achieve the best possible patient outcomes. Teaches others as appropriate and delegates tasks consistent with the individual's education, training, and scope of practice. Safeguards public safety by adhering to infection prevention strategies. Motivates patients and families by teaching them what is necessary to continue care and healing at home. Assesses learning styles and structures education sessions to maximize understanding. Seeks teachable moments to emphasize key information during care delivery. Provides tools and information to assist patients’ families after discharge. Documents education provided and patient/family responses. Evaluates the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and engages in self-evaluation to identify strengths and areas for professional development. Takes accountability for increasing knowledge and enhancing skills. Demonstrates logical reasoning in evaluating alternative solutions and approaches to problems. Establishes a meaningful connection with patients and families. Strives to create a healing environment as a key element of professional nursing practice. Demonstrates skill in administering medications and other interventions. Occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens is anticipated. Required tasks involve potential contact with blood, body fluids, and tissues.
