Journeyman Lineman

Summary

The following information aims to provide potential candidates with a better understanding of the requirements for this role.

• Linemen are responsible for the repair and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical power lines and auxiliary equipment. This includes work from power plants to the meters of customers' homes. Additionally, a lineman digs trenches for the installation of underground lines, install meters, climb poles to repair overhead lines and inspect power lines for possible repair or replacement

Qualification Requirements:

Physical Requirements:

• Physically agile – able to lift 55 pounds of dead weight and carry it for 100 yards.
• Good hearing and able to communicate effectively.
• Not afraid of heights and or confined spaces.
• Able to work comfortably in dangerous work environments.

Requirements:

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• HS diploma or GED required.
• Completion of a formal journeyman lineman training program.
• At least 3 years' experience as a lineman.
• Able to identify safety hazards.
• Must be always alert.
• Able to understand spoken and written English effectively.
• Able to pass post offer substance testing.

Essential Functions:

• Thoroughly understands and implements safety procedures.
• Safely and accurately prepares work sites with warning signs and secures areas.
• Locate underground electric cable faults for repair.
• Read and interpret wiring diagrams.
• Install primary and secondary overhead and underground electrical systems.
• Works on energized and de-energized power lines.
• Conduct work outdoors in various types of weather.

• Physical Demands:

  Physically demanding job which requires lifting heavy objects, twisting, bending and reaching. Must be physically agile and able to work in confined spaces as well as high elevations. xhyhwjd

• Work Environment:

  Work is usually performed in high heights with exposure to varying extreme climates and outside weather conditions (heat/cold, wet/humid).
