Manufacturing Engineer – Assembly Planning

Location: Georgetown, Kentucky

Position Type: Contract

Pay: $50.00–$55.00 per hour

Position Overview

• Reliance One, Inc. is hiring a passionate and highly motivated Manufacturing Engineer for one of our established clients in the automotive manufacturing industry.
• This position will support the research, development, preparation, and implementation of new technologies and innovative solutions for final assembly operations across North American manufacturing facilities.
• Working within an advanced equipment and assembly-planning team, the Manufacturing Engineer will help improve operational excellence, production readiness, manufacturing efficiency, infrastructure, logistics, and cost per unit through close collaboration with internal departments, manufacturing sites, suppliers, and other external partners.

Key Responsibilities

Advanced Assembly and Equipment Planning

• Support advanced equipment planning and production-engineering activities for vehicle assembly operations.
• Research and evaluate emerging technologies, equipment, tools, and manufacturing processes.
• Develop innovative solutions for current and future final assembly challenges.
• Support the preparation and implementation of new manufacturing technologies.
• Assist production-planning and site teams throughout project development and execution.
• Evaluate equipment and process requirements for new programs and manufacturing improvements.

Capital Equipment and Production Preparation

• Support capital-equipment projects involving investment planning, technical specifications, procurement, installation, and production readiness.
• Develop technical equipment requirements and supporting project documentation.
• Coordinate equipment sourcing and procurement activities.
• Support equipment installation, commissioning, validation, and operational handoff.
• Monitor project schedules, milestones, risks, and deliverables.
• Help ensure new equipment and processes are safe, efficient, sustainable, and ready for production.

Operational Excellence and Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve cost per unit, productivity, quality, safety, and manufacturing efficiency.
• Support improvements involving logistics, infrastructure, tooling, equipment, and production processes.
• Develop and implement new business processes, engineering methods, and technical tools.
• Analyze manufacturing concerns and recommend practical countermeasures.
• Apply innovative thinking to improve operations across multiple manufacturing locations.
• Support the long-term sustainability of equipment and production processes.

Engineering Collaboration

• Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering, Production Engineering, Operations, Maintenance, Logistics, Purchasing, suppliers, and site teams.
• Coordinate technical information and project requirements across internal and external groups.
• Communicate project progress, risks, recommendations, and action items clearly.
• Support cross-functional problem-solving and issue resolution.
• Work independently while contributing effectively within a collaborative engineering environment.
• Maintain clear project records, layouts, specifications, and technical documentation.

Manufacturing Layout and Design Support

• Develop and update manufacturing layouts using Autodesk AutoCAD.
• Review equipment placement, production flow, infrastructure, and space requirements.
• Support three-dimensional equipment and facility studies.
• Use available design and visualization tools to communicate manufacturing concepts.
• Review technical drawings and models for accuracy and alignment with project requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another applicable engineering discipline.
• At least two years of experience supporting the production preparation of capital equipment.
• Experience with investment planning, technical specification development, procurement, installation, or operational sustainment.
• At least two years of practical experience with manufacturing or production-engineering equipment, tools, and processes.
• Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD.
• Ability to read and interpret manufacturing layouts, equipment drawings, and technical documentation.
• Strong project-management, organization, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to self-direct work and manage priorities efficiently.
• Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve project objectives.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related Office applications.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting automotive final assembly operations.
• Experience with advanced equipment planning or new-model production preparation.
• General working knowledge of Autodesk Inventor and Vault.
• Experience with CATIA, XVL, or similar engineering and visualization software.
• Knowledge of equipment installation, commissioning, validation, and production ramp-up.
• Experience improving manufacturing cost, logistics, infrastructure, or operational efficiency.
• Experience coordinating projects across multiple manufacturing locations.
