Job Description

The Critical Utilities Technician (Boiler Technician) plays a key role in ensuring reliable operation of all utilities supporting both GMP and non-GMP site services at a Nashville, TN manufacturing facility. This position focuses on troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing boilers, chillers, and a wide range of clean and plant utility systems to support safe, compliant, and efficient production.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot and maintain boilers, chillers, and other critical utility equipment to ensure continuous and optimal operation.
• Perform routine inspections and maintenance on mechanical systems, monitoring metering equipment and adjusting operating levels as needed.
• Schedule and complete regular inspections, cleanings, filter replacements, and other preventive maintenance tasks to keep all components performing at peak efficiency.
• Identify malfunctioning components, determine root causes, and repair or replace parts to restore reliable operation.
• Monitor safety equipment and system performance, identify potential safety issues, and take appropriate steps to suspend operations and correct problems when necessary.
• Perform necessary repairs and component upgrades while obtaining replacement parts and staying within established budget guidelines.
• Stay current on applicable safety laws, regulations, and industry standards to ensure full compliance at all times.
• Create, update, and maintain accurate documentation and records of inspections, maintenance routines, and repairs performed on critical utility systems.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of developments in relevant technologies and make recommendations for system overhauls, upgrades, and improvements.
• Execute preventative maintenance programs for critical utility systems, including boilers, chillers, compressors, and clean utilities.
• Support the reliable operation of clean utility systems such as WFI, RO, clean steam, and associated distribution equipment.
• Assist with the operation and maintenance of air compressors and air systems, chiller systems, nitrogen systems, wastewater systems, and HVAC systems.
• Contribute to the maintenance of HEPA systems and overall facility environmental control to support manufacturing requirements.
• Collaborate with facility and plant maintenance teams to service and repair plant equipment and ensure facility readiness.
• Respond to service requests and equipment issues promptly, providing effective troubleshooting and repair to minimize downtime.

Essential Skills

• Hands-on experience with boiler operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance, including high-pressure boilers.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with proven experience in mechanical systems and facilities maintenance.
• Ability to troubleshoot and repair electrical aspects of plant and utility equipment.
• Experience maintaining and servicing clean utility systems such as WFI, RO, and clean steam.
• Knowledge of air compressors and air systems, including operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with chiller systems and their integration into facility utilities.
• Familiarity with nitrogen systems and wastewater systems in a manufacturing environment.
• Practical experience with heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including HEPA filtration and climate control.
• Competence in facility maintenance and plant equipment service and repair.
• Ability to create and maintain detailed maintenance, inspection, and repair documentation.
• Understanding of safety regulations and practices related to mechanical and utility systems in a regulated environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in facilities maintenance within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
• Experience working in FDA-regulated or similarly regulated environments is beneficial.
• Familiarity with GMP and non-GMP site services and their utility requirements.
• Comfort working with a variety of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC equipment.
• Ability to stay current with evolving technologies and recommend system upgrades and improvements.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to preventative maintenance.
• Effective communication skills for documenting work and collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Work Environment

This role is based in a modern manufacturing facility that is clean, climate controlled, and operates under FDA-regulated standards. The environment includes boilers, chillers, clean utility systems (WFI, RO, clean steam), air compressors, nitrogen and wastewater systems, and HVAC and HEPA filtration systems. Work is hands-on with mechanical, electrical, and facility equipment, focusing on maintaining reliable utilities in a controlled, professional setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mt. Juliet, TN.

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $32.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
