Marine Mechanical Engineer (Auxiliary), Journeyman

THOR Solutions is actively seeking a highly motivated mid-level Marine Mechanical Engineer (Auxiliary) to support the United States Coast Guard (USCG)’s Ship Design Team in Baltimore, MD . An ideal candidate will have prior experience with design, optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, and/or weight handling systems calculations and analyses, and familiarity with U.S. Federal or commercial shipbuilding programs, standards, and regulations.

Typical Responsibilities:

• Provide technical support and documentation design, develop, and evaluate the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment, to include, but not limited to: auxiliary systems, hydraulics weight handling equipment, rudders, piping, pumps, valves, and HVAC, and apply to applicable design and requirements.
• Develop system documentation and ship specifications.
• Conduct analysis and design of auxiliary systems, lead development of technical data packages and reviews.
• Conduct trade studies.

Location : Full time onsite at USCG Surface Forces Logistics Center (SFLC) in Baltimore, MD.

Travel : Up to 10% travel is anticipated for ship checks. 

 
Typical Physical Activity : Primarily desk/computer work in an office environment. May involve: repetitive motion. Periodic visits to waterfront/shipboard environments. May involve: traversing shipboard environments (e.g., confined spaces, ladders, hatches) or vision.

Typical Pay Range : The anticipated pay range for this position in the identified location(s) is $80,000 – 110,000. Actual compensation offered will be based upon individual factors including education, qualifications, and experience.

Eligibility for a SECRET Security Clearance is Required : This position requires eligibility for a Secret security clearance, to be obtained after hire. Only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance; therefore, only current U.S. citizens will be considered for this position. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:  

• Bachelor’s degree in Marine or Mechanical Engineering, or another relevant technical, engineering, or a marine discipline from an ABET-accredited institution.
• At least three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in Marine Mechanical fields.
  • Overall experience must include at least three (3) years of documented experience with design, optimization, and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems, ship machinery integration, cargo handling systems, and/or weight handling systems calculations and analyses.
• Familiarity with ABS, USN, and industry standards relating to shipboard auxiliary systems.
• Proficient with common productivity software.
• Strong communications skills.

Additional Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Experience related to U.S. Federal or commercial ship or boat building acquisition programs.
• Experience with DoD ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs.
