MEDICAL ASSISTANT - Union General Urology - Full Time

Medical Assistant

Union General Hospital Clinics is looking for a Medical Assistant. The role involves assisting providers with evaluation, examination, and treatment of patients and all follow up duties related to patient care.

The responsibilities include:

Daily:

• Reviewing schedule of upcoming appointments to ensure charts are prepped and include necessary documents such as required labs, x-rays, medication list, consults, etc.
• Calling and assisting patients from waiting area to back office for triage which includes but is not limited to: weight, height, blood pressure, vision, hearing, pulse ox, EKG, labs, UA, question intake, medication review, etc.
• Reporting any STAT findings to provider
• Answering phone calls, emails, voicemails and returning patient calls in a timely and efficient manner. Documenting all telephone conversations with patients and family members
• Scheduling referrals and outpatient testing and contacting the patient with the information pertaining to said appointment.
• Managing medication refill requests as per clinical guidelines
• Assisting with any procedures the provider needs.
• Cleaning and sanitizing exam rooms after every patient.
• Drawing labs and performing point of service testing on patients as per provider orders. Following up on all tests performed providing results timely to ordering provider.
• Administering injections as per provider orders documenting administration as per clinical guidelines
• Abiding by and promoting HIPAA compliance; maintaining strictest confidentiality with regards to patient information.
• Performing emergency life-saving procedures if necessary

Monthly:

• Assisting with maintaining drug closet as assigned
• Assisting with maintaining items in office are stocked up as assigned
• Performing monthly calibration checks on required equipment and logging
• Participating in staff meetings as directed by the Practice Manager
• Other duties and/or special projects as assigned

Required Education, Skills & Experience:

Two years' experience as a Medical Assistant within family practice or specialty, preferred. CPR certification required.

• Plan, prioritize, and complete multiple tasks as delegated by the Practice Manager
• Work under pressure; assess, respond, and communicate issues in a timely manner
• Communicate clearly with patients and coworkers through the telephone, email, and in-person
• Interpret and apply clinical and non-clinical policies and procedures
• Maintains Certification for Medical Assisting as required by accrediting organization

Occupational Exposure:

• Frequent exposure to blood and body fluids
• Frequent exposure to hazardous material
• Exposure to communicable disease
• Appropriate protective equipment will be readily available and provided

Physical/Mental/Environmental Demands:

Requires sitting and standing associated with a normal office environment; spends 95% or more of time inside. Lifting up to 50 lbs and frequent carrying of objects up to 25 lbs.
