Safety Coordinator

Civil Works Contracting is seeking a motivated Safety Coordinator to support our Civil/Rail/ Federal construction operations. This is a 90% field-based position focused on ensuring safe work practices across active construction projects. The Safety Coordinator will spend the majority of their time in the field working directly with crews, foremen, superintendents, and project managers to identify hazards, provide coaching, conduct inspections, and promote a strong safety culture. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of construction safety experience and a working knowledge of OSHA construction standards. This individual must be comfortable working outdoors, traveling between jobsites, and building relationships with field personnel. Spend approximately 90% of work time in the field supporting active construction projects and promoting a strong safety culture. Conduct daily and weekly job-site safety inspections to identify hazards and verify compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Identify safe and at-risk conditions and behaviors and partner with operations personnel to implement timely corrective actions. Perform incident, injury, property damage, and near-miss investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action recommendations. Facilitate new hire orientations, site-specific safety briefings, and task-specific training programs. Attend, participate in, and contribute to toolbox talks, Job Hazard Analyses (JHA) meetings, and other safety-related meetings. Assist project teams in the development and review of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs), and other project-specific safety documentation to ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. Monitor and evaluate compliance with company safety programs, OSHA regulations, and client-specific requirements. Support excavation, trenching, utility work, traffic control operations, heavy equipment activities, and other high-risk construction tasks through field observations and safety oversight. Maintain accurate safety documentation, inspection records, training records, and incident reports. Build and maintain positive working relationships with craft employees, supervisors, foremen, and project leadership to promote employee engagement and continuous safety improvement. Provide coaching and mentorship to employees and supervisors on hazard recognition, risk mitigation, and safe work practices. Assist in implementing corrective and preventive actions to reduce incidents and continuously improve project safety performance. Qualifications Required: Minimum 2 years of construction safety experience . Experience working on civil construction, heavy highway, site development, utility, grading, or infrastructure projects. Working knowledge of OSHA Construction Standards (29 CFR 1926). Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently in a fast-paced field environment. Valid driver's license and willingness to travel between project sites. Preferred: OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification. STS-C certification or ability to obtain. CHST certification or ability to obtain. CPR/First Aid certification.
