Land Surveying Technician

CNY Land Surveying LLC (established 1991) is a land surveying firm headquartered in Baldwinsville, NY performing various surveying mapping services across Central New York, with occasional travel to Western New York and Southern Tier.

We are looking for a detail-oriented Survey Technician to join our team. In this role, you will assist in conducting surveys, collecting field data and contributing to various projects including topographic, boundary retracement, construction, and as-built surveying. This is an excellent opportunity for someone eager to learn and grow within the surveying field while gaining hands-on experience in both office and field settings.

Job Responsibilities

• Search, locate and recover existing survey markers, including stones and property irons, and set out stakes and other markers
• Compile and verify preexisting data from photographs, previous surveys, maps, deeds, legal descriptions and other sources
• Collect, analyze, and record survey measurements and data accurately using tools such as total stations, GPS equipment and levels
• Prepare survey drawings and reports using Carlson CAD software

Job Skills & Qualifications

Required:

• High school diploma (or equivalent)
• Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds on a daily basis
• Valid driver’s license
• Enthusiastic about learning new technologies and methodologies
• Strong math and computer skills; attention to detail
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team and adapt to changing project requirements and environments
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Basic understanding of surveying principles and techniques (but willing to train a motivated candidate)

Preferred:

• A.A.S. in Surveying Technology or B. S. in Surveying Engineering
• One year experience performing field surveys
• Familiarity with Carlson GPS/GNSS devices, Trimble robotic total stations, Carlson data collection devices
• Experience performing static and RTK GPS/GNSS surveys
• Experience performing random traversing and differential leveling
• Experience performing topographic surveys with the ability to take clear and concise field notes and sketches
• Familiarity performing document research, boundary line reconnaissance, and property line blazing
• Proficiency with AutoCAD (preferably Carlson)
