Job Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Cardiac Telemetry

Overview

We are seeking a qualified Registered Nurse with a specialty in Cardiac Telemetry. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience in a cardiac floor environment and will demonstrate proficiency in cardiac telemetry and related skills.

Responsibilities

• Monitor patients through cardiac telemetry, focusing on dysrhythmia management and interpretation.
• Provide care for patients with various cardiac conditions, including atrial fibrillation, congestive heart failure, and post-myocardial infarction.
• Administer and manage cardiac drips, with an emphasis on both non-titrated and titrated management.
• Perform sheath removal and assist with various cardiac and vascular procedural post-care.
• Utilize external CPAP/BIPAP devices and manage non-invasive airway support as needed.
• Participate in multi-disciplinary rounds and adhere to established care protocols.
• Collaborate effectively with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience on a cardiac floor is required.
• Traveler experience is preferred unless the candidate has over 24 months of cardiac experience.
• Must possess current BLS and ACLS certifications.
• NIHSS certification is also required.
• Preferred skills include arterial line management, wound care, and charge experience.
• Candidates must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty.

Shift and Scheduling

The position is for night shifts, working 36 hours a week. The contract duration can range from 13 to 26 weeks, and staff may be required to float within unit rotations. A weekend work commitment of 4 weekends every 4 weeks is expected.

Patient Population

Common patient diagnoses include, but are not limited to:

• Atrial Fibrillation
• Chronic Heart Failure (CHF)
• Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS)
• Coronary Artery Disease (CAD)
• Aortic Stenosis/Regurgitation
• Mitral Regurgitation/Stenosis
• Endocarditis and Cardiomyopathy

Special Procedures

The unit provides care for pre and post-operative patients undergoing various cardiac and thoracic procedures, including:

• Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG)
• Aortic and Mitral Valve Repairs/Replacements (AVR, MVR)
• Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR)
• Watchman procedures and other vascular surgeries

Equipment

The role may involve using a variety of specialized equipment, including:

• Arterial lines (not required for all candidates)
• Bladder scanners
• Telemetry monitors and EKG machines
• Chest tubes and pacing wires

Unit Orientation

A 24-hour orientation will be provided for all new staff members to ensure successful integration into the unit.

Scrub Attire

Participants are required to wear navy scrubs during their shifts.

Additional Information

All contract staff may be assigned to work with a Storm Team or Hurricane Team during catastrophic events and may need to report to work in response to emergencies.
