BI Engineer

Role Description

A BI Engineer assists with the creation of repeatable reporting assets.

• Design and develop BI reporting and data platforms.
• Create user-facing data visualization and presentation tools, including but not limited to:
  • Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports
  • Power BI dashboards
  • MicroStrategy
  • Excel PivotTables
• Work on the development of data retrieval and data management for Evolent Health.
• Support in ensuring that the BI data assets of the organization align with strategic goals.
• Help implement effective business analytics practices to enhance decision making, efficiency, and performance.
• Assist with technology improvements for continuous enhancements of the core BI platform.
• Data Analysis: Perform complex data analysis using advanced SQL skills and Excel to support internal/external client data requests and queries.
• Communicate with non-technical business users to gather specific requirements for reports and BI solutions.
• Provide maintenance support for existing BI applications and reports.
• Present work when requested and participate in knowledge-sharing sessions with team members.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 3+ years of experience in BI/Data Warehouse domain developing BI solutions and data analysis tasks using MSBI suites.
• Strong proficiency in Power BI: building reports, dashboards, DAX, and Power Query (M).
• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Lakehouses, Dataflows Gen2, Direct Lake capabilities, and PowerAutomate.
• Experience with Azure Data Services: Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse, Azure Data Lake, or similar.
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) and SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS).
• Knowledge of Advanced SQL for data manipulation and performance tuning.
• Experience implementing ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Ability to work with both relational and cloud-based data sources.
• Healthcare industry experience with exposure to authorizations/claims/eligibility and patient clinical data is preferred.
• Experience with Python, Spark, or Databricks for data engineering or transformation is preferred.
• Familiarity with DevOps/GitRepo for BI, including deployment is preferred.

• High-speed internet over 10 Mbps required.
• Call center employees must be able to plug in directly to the home internet router.
