Cook

The Cook prepares, seasons, and cooks meals for hospital patients aged 5 to 65+, as well as employees and visitors. Reviews menus to determine the types and quantities of meats, vegetables, soups, salads, and desserts needed. Plans the cooking schedule collaboratively with the supervisor and/or dietician to ensure timely meal service. Consults with dieticians regarding special diet preparations and the appropriate use of leftovers.

Ensures optimal quality, temperature, and presentation of meals while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and facility sanitary, infection control, and dietary regulations. Maintains a clean, safe, and hazard-free work environment in accordance with facility policies and safety programs. Assists with food purchasing, storage, and inventory management to support kitchen operations. Participates in ongoing training, stays current with nutritional practices, and actively engages in department and facility meetings and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent. 1 Year of hospital experience preferred. Ability to read a recipe. Must hold or obtain D.C. sanitation certification and maintain as a condition of continued employment. Ability to read, write, and perform simple arithmetic.
