Attorney 1 - Supreme Court

This position will support the Court Counsel in Counsel’s role as liaison to the Supreme Court Boards and Advisory Groups, and Court Counsel’s role in coordination with the Court Administrator of Pennsylvania and key staff of the Administration Office of Pennsylvania Courts (AOPC). Duties will be performed under the supervision of Court Counsel.

Primary Duties

• Perform legal research on a wide range of matters relating to the Supreme Court’s supervisory and administrative authority over the court system, admission to the Bar, and the practice of law.

• Review materials in advance of regular meetings of the Court’s Boards and Advisory Groups, and preparation with Court Counsel.

• Analyze proposals from Court Boards and Advisory Groups relating to each entity’s work, conduct related research, and prepare detailed draft memoranda for recommendations to the Court.

• Support regular interactions with the Chief Justice, the Chief’s staff, members of the Court, the Court Administrator of Pennsylvania, and key AOPC staff, in additional areas including communications, legislative and budgetary matters, judicial district operations, judicial education, and information technology.

• Develop and maintain productive working relationships with other Supreme Court and AOPC personnel, Executive Directors of Boards and representatives of Advisory Groups.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduation from an accredited school of law and certificate of admission to the Bar of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
• At least two years of professional legal experience.
• General knowledge of the structure and operation of the Pennsylvania judicial system.
• General knowledge of judicial procedures.
• Ability to understand and interpret constitutional provisions, statutes, regulations, procedural rules and case precedents.
• Strong writing skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to use standard legal research and software applications.
• Ability to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships.
• Satisfactory criminal background check required.

Additional Qualifications/Preferences

• Duties are generally performed in an office environment using standard office equipment and computer applications.
• Occasional travel with overnight stays away from home for Court sessions and Board meetings may be required.

Starting Salary Range: $61,916 - $75,020
Starting salary will vary depending upon the qualifications and employment history of the selected candidate.
