General Production Worker

This role is a hands-on general labor position supporting the 100 Series production area, focused on the mechanical assembly and fabrication of window products. You will work across material handling, assembly, and fabrication areas, using basic hand and power tools, measuring materials, and operating manufacturing equipment to build high-quality windows in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

• Perform general production and labor tasks to support the 100 Series window manufacturing operations.
• Assist with mechanical assembly of windows by fabricating and putting together different components as they move down multiple assembly lines.
• Use basic hand and power tools, including tape measures, to perform general woodworking tasks such as assisting in cutting lumber, handling materials, and loading machines.
• Work in the Super Market area to handle materials and pick orders, including feeding assembly lines and supporting a high-speed material handling environment.
• Operate or assist with powered industrial equipment such as sit-down and stand-up forklifts, tuggers, and pallet jacks, as required by the department.
• Use paper pick sheets, perform cycle counting, and ensure accurate material flow to production lines.
• Work in assembly areas on either the sash line (interior of the window) or frame line (exterior of the window) to assemble window components.
• Insert materials into fixtures or jigs, apply adhesives, and follow automated processes for glass installation and quality finishing.
• Meet production expectations in a fast-paced environment, contributing to a target of approximately one window per minute on designated lines.
• Rotate through multiple workstations within assigned areas while maintaining focus on primary tasks for extended periods (often up to several months).
• Perform more physically demanding tasks, including heavier lifting and team lifting activities, as needed in specific roles.
• Work in the fabrication area by loading and placing materials into automated machines that cut components to size.
• Measure parts using calipers and other measuring tools to perform quality checks and verify accuracy.
• Operate manufacturing equipment and use hand tools as required to meet production and quality standards.
• Work safely at all times and follow all safe work practices, policies, and procedures.
• Help ensure co-workers follow safety requirements and contribute to a safe work environment.
• Follow all applicable procedures, Standardized Work, Control Plans, and Product Specifications.
• Assist in identifying training needs and propose ideas to improve quality metrics and overall performance.
• Learn, understand, and implement AMS and continuous improvement concepts in daily work.
• Support and participate in employee engagement activities.
• Follow defined clean-up times and maintain a clean and organized work area.
• Engage in cross-training to maintain flexibility and adaptability, supporting resource planning across different departments and operations.
• Work to an established production rate based on customer demand and Standardized Work requirements.
• Participate in defining and improving Standardized Work by sharing feedback and suggestions.
• Identify problems in processes or equipment, communicate issues promptly to Work Center Leads and Supervisors, and assist in resolving them.
• Use problem-solving tools to help improve Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC) metrics.
• Assist with training co-workers on tasks, processes, and safety practices as needed.
• Support a respectful workplace by demonstrating professionalism, teamwork, and positive communication.
• Perform other duties across the plant as needed, based on direction from supervision and operational requirements.
• Operate or refrain from operating powered industrial trucks (PIT), such as forklifts, depending on departmental needs and assignments.

Essential Skills

• Experience performing general production, general labor, or assembly work in a manufacturing or similar environment.
• Ability to use basic hand and power tools safely and effectively.
• Ability to read and use a tape measure accurately for woodworking and material cutting tasks.
• Basic computer skills to read and understand reports and production-related information.
• Ability to read and understand Standardized Work, Control Plans, Product Specifications, and related documentation.
• Experience with forklift operation, including sit-down and stand-up forklifts, as well as tuggers and pallet jacks, or willingness to learn as required.
• Experience with machine operation, including loading and placing materials into automated machines.
• Ability to perform inspection tasks and use measuring tools such as calipers for quality checks.
• Ability to safely lift and carry up to 60 pounds frequently.
• Ability to safely push and/or pull up to 98 pounds of force.
• Ability to perform tasks requiring repetitive motion and to stand for long periods throughout the shift.
• Ability to climb stairs or steps and work in a variety of positions such as stooping, reaching, and twisting.
• Ability to grasp and pinch frequently throughout the day while working around and near moving equipment and machinery.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality to support consistent production schedules.
• Strong communication skills to work effectively with leads, supervisors, and team members.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical assembly, window installation, doorframes, door hanging, or door trim work.
• Experience in construction, landscaping, or similar physically demanding roles.
• Experience using blueprints or production drawings to guide assembly or fabrication tasks.
• Previous experience in material handling, order picking, and cycle counting in a warehouse or manufacturing setting.
• Experience working with adhesives and fixtures or jigs in assembly environments.
• Exposure to continuous improvement systems, such as AMS or similar methodologies.
• Experience operating powered industrial trucks (PIT), including forklifts, in a manufacturing or warehouse environment.
• Familiarity with inspection processes and quality control practices in manufacturing.
• Comfort working in fast-paced, high-volume production environments with defined output targets.
• Willingness to work in regimented environments with strict adherence to break times and production quantities.

Work Environment

The work takes place in a very large, historic manufacturing facility that is over 100 years old, with some areas more modern than others. The production floor is not climate controlled, and temperatures can become very warm during the summer months. The facility uses HVAC systems, open windows and doors, and multiple fans at many workstations to promote airflow and improve comfort, and provides Gatorade, drink stations, and break areas to help employees stay hydrated. The building layout includes designated bathroom locations, drinking areas, kiosks, and other points where employees can access food and water during breaks. The environment is highly structured, with strict adherence to break schedules and clear expectations for production quantities, reflecting a lean and regimented operation focused on efficiency and accuracy. You will work around moving equipment and machinery, including automated machines and powered industrial trucks, and will typically wear appropriate industrial attire suitable for a manufacturing floor, consistent with safety and operational requirements.
