RN Medical Unit

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Medical Unit at Mercyhealth Hospital and Trauma Center is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to patients, collaborating with interdisciplinary team members, and administering prescribed medications and treatments. This role requires strong clinical expertise, critical thinking, and adherence to nursing standards and state laws. The nurse will develop and execute individualized patient care plans and participate in performance improvement activities. The position involves working 12-hour day shifts with weekend and holiday coverage. Responsibilities:

• Utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to provide comprehensive patient care.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing policies and state practice acts.
• Document patient care and interventions according to standards of care.
• Develop, initiate, and execute individualized patient plans of care including patient and family education.
• Participate in department or unit performance improvement and shared governance activities.
• Provide clinical expertise and guidance to other units/departments to support patient care continuity.
• Apply critical thinking to ensure patient safety and quality experience, escalating concerns appropriately.
• May be required to float to other units as needed.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Current Registered Nurse license in the state of Wisconsin.
• CPR/BLS certification.
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Education verification as a Registered Nurse.
• Strong clinical nursing skills and knowledge of nursing process.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• Experience in hospital medical units or similar clinical settings.
• Familiarity with performance improvement and shared governance processes.
• Experience with patient education and care planning.

Special Considerations:

• Must be able to work every other weekend and holiday.
• Travel Registered Nurse may be required to float to other units.
• Adherence to hospital policies, procedures, and standards of care is mandatory.

Scheduling:

• 12-hour day shifts from 6:30 AM to 7:00 PM.
• Work schedule includes every other weekend and holiday coverage.
