Position Overview

Our organization is in search of a Chair for the Musculoskeletal Service Line within the Department of Orthopedics. This role is pivotal in overseeing the quality of educational, scientific, and clinical initiatives within the department. We are an integrated health system with around 17,000 employees, six acute care hospitals, three nursing facilities, a home health service, hospice care, and a network of over 3,600 physicians across Long Island.

Key Responsibilities

The Chair will be tasked with:

• Leading and managing the department effectively, ensuring optimal use of personnel, finances, space, and resources to achieve clinical, educational, and research objectives.
• Enhancing clinical operations while fostering an environment that promotes business development, education, clinical productivity, research, and exceptional surgical care.
• Demonstrating a strong commitment to high-quality care delivery, research, education, and advocacy.
• Collaborating closely with the leadership team and physicians to drive innovation and align with the organization's mission, ensuring the department remains at the forefront of Musculoskeletal Orthopedic care.
• Guiding the department through changes in the healthcare landscape with emotional intelligence, promoting a culture of collaboration, stewardship, and transparency.

Working Conditions

Compensation

Base Salary Range: Starting at $850K, with additional stipends available for administrative responsibilities.

Reporting Structure: The Chair will report directly to the Chief Clinical Officer for clinical guidance and to the Chief Operating Officer for operational, financial, and programmatic planning.

Clinical and Administrative Split: 70% Clinical and 30% Administrative responsibilities.

Specific Duties

The Chair will also be responsible for:

• Leading the Service Line across all six hospitals and ambulatory service sites.
• Collaborating with system leaders to integrate emergency care and on-call coverage, ensuring comprehensive care.
• Partnering with the Vice President of Orthopedic and Musculoskeletal Service Line to plan and implement strategic initiatives, enhance practice protocols, and advise on value-based care strategies.
• Developing and overseeing performance measures to improve the health system.
• Engaging with referring physicians to promote the Musculoskeletal Service Line.
• Setting a strategic vision in collaboration with regional and local leadership to ensure successful execution of the Service Line's goals.
• Overseeing clinical care delivery, recruitment, research growth, educational programs, and community service, while transforming the Service Line into the Musculoskeletal Institute.

In Partnership with the Vice President, The Chair Will:

• Establish recruitment strategies for staff and physicians based on budget and volume needs, including succession planning.
• Develop evidence-based protocols and build Centers of Excellence (COEs) across the system.
• Ensure quality, patient experience, and performance improvement initiatives are prioritized.
• Align campus-specific expansion opportunities with service line and organizational strategic priorities.
• Enhance the organization's academic and research profile and participate in system-wide committees.
