The associate will be an integral member of the team, will work closely with the senior analyst and two other team members to develop and market all equity research products. The role requires strong analytical / critical thinking skills, solid communication skills (with a drive for client interaction) a passion for the stock market, keen attention to detail, and a strong work ethic.The work environment involves collaboration, co-ordination and a shared knowledge base with the analyst and rest of the team but equally values independence, initiative, idea generation and a sense of ownership for the work.Ideal Candidate: Our ideal candidate is fully licensed and has a minimum of three to five plus years of equity research experience in the U.S. Financials space with a strong financial background and a desire to help create, launch and support new research. Strong accounting and finance skills, strong communication skills (both verbal for client interactions as well as written) a passion for the stock market and the ability to work on a fast-paced equity research team are critical.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Building and maintaining detailed company models (IS/BS/CF)Analyzing financial statements and news related to industry coverageAnalyze company filings (10-K, 10-Q, earnings releases) and company transcriptsWriting equity research reports and over time, formulating investment thesesParticipation in site visits and management meetingsMaintaining, sourcing and analyzing industry dataCommunicating investment recommendations to internal and external clientsCollaborate in developing tools and processes to gather industry and company-related news that can then be disseminated to clients as one-off products or incorporated in the group’s normal research productWork to establish industry, regulatory and political relationships to help better predict and/or handicap industry trends or company-related eventsExperience/SkillsA combination of writing skills, technical knowledge and skills in equity research, finance or accounting demonstrated through relevant work and educational experience is required. Prior industry experience in the brokerage, asset management and exchange sectors is not required but could be a benefit. Candidates must have a clear and proven track record of achievement throughout their education and career. Other necessary attributes include:Exceptional written and verbal communication skillsStrong organizational skills and comfort managing various/shifting prioritiesClient service mindset and ability to prioritize client needs with accuracyThe ability to interact professionally with company management teams and clients (analysts and portfolio managers)A keen interest in and demonstrated understanding of Equity ResearchA positive attitude, intellectual curiosity, the ability to learn quickly and strong attention to detailSuperior work ethic, self-motivated and the ability to work both collaboratively as well as independentlyAbility to manage a heavy workload and meet stringent deadlines, often in a time-constrained, high-pressure environmentFlexibility to work irregular and extended hoursSolid technology skills with robust knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Bloomberg and/or FactSet. Familiarity with Dealogic, Preqin and Morningstar would also be a positive.Demonstrated use of AI in the workplaceCFA Charter or working towards the CFA designation is a plusEducationBachelor’s degree is required. A post-secondary degree in a related field of study is a plus.
