Extended Care Camp Counselor

Location and Job Title: Extended Care Camp Counselor Jewish Silicon Valley / Addison-Penzak JCC 14855 Oka Road Suite 200 Los Gatos, CA 95032 Principal Responsibilities: FREE Membership while employed Pay Range: $16.90-$19.00 per hour Summary: Under the direction of the Camp & Youth Director, the Extended Care Camp Counselor will interact with and supervise campers aged 5-13 years old. This position is specifically 3:00pm-6:00pm daily, Monday-Friday working with campers in our Extended Care program and assisting with the end of the regular camp day, or our Extended Care morning program from 7:30am-10:00am daily, Monday-Friday working with campers. Must be able to commit to the majority of 8 weeks, June 1st-July 31st, with the option to remain on through August 14th. Additional hours may be available during the summer. Extended Care Camp Counselor will assist with planning and implementing morning or afternoon camp activities for a group of campers enrolled in the Extended Care program. Work to ensure that the end of the camp day operates in a safe manner at all times and ensure the implementation of group activities while creating a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all. Extended Care Counselors are expected to uphold, and role model the values of Camp Shalom. Areas of Responsibility Must have the knowledge of campers' whereabouts at all times. Actively facilitates camper development in recreational activities, social skills development, values, multi-cultural and environmental awareness. Maintain a positive attitude and conduct with the staff team as a positive role model. Adhere to and enforce camp policies and procedures in a safe manner at all times. Attendance at staff meetings and pre-camp training (mandatory). Be prompt to all work shifts and assignments adhering to the daily camp schedule and operating calendar. Maintains all camp equipment and supplies. Care about and pay attention to campers' needs. Performs all other duties as assigned by Camp Leadership. Ability to work traditional business hours as well as non-traditional hours as business. Effect on End Result The effectiveness of this position will be measured by: Purposeful and coordinated programs that advance Camp and JSV strategic goals, good public relations, sound financial position, and good records systems. Qualifications and Competencies: Education and/or experience: Minimum of 15 years of age (over 16 years preferred) ECE units or Recreation units desired. Specific Certification Requirements: Current American Red Cross CPR for Child and Adult or willingness to obtain. Current American Red Cross First Aid Certification or willingness to obtain. If over 18 years old - Completion and clearance of background fingerprint assessment via the JSV Specific Live scan location. If under 18 years old - current Work Permit required. Employees at JSV may have availability to attend in-house Certification courses, please check with the Camp Director as to availability. Language skills: Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, co-workers, volunteers, members, parents, donors, and the general public. Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Must possess the ability to make sound independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action. Working Conditions/Physical requirements: Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to act swiftly in emergency situations. Ability to adequately observe participant activities, enforces safety regulations, and applies appropriate policies and procedures. The physical ability to lead and interact in group activities and perform related skills. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee regularly is required to stand, walk, sit, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Also required to climb, push, and pull. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Ability to work both in an outside and inside environment, different temperature extremes. Ability and willingness to get in the swimming pool to supervise swimming time.
