The Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing all nursing services, maintaining regulatory compliance, supporting quality improvement initiatives, managing departmental resources, and fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.

This leadership position plays a critical role in promoting clinical excellence, staff development, resident satisfaction, and operational success.

Essential Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, direction, and oversight for all nursing services within the facility.

• Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as professional standards of practice.

• Review staffing schedules and assignments to ensure adequate coverage and continuity of care.

• Supervise nursing personnel, including performance management, coaching, disciplinary actions, and professional development.

• Oversee recruitment, onboarding, orientation, scheduling, and retention efforts for nursing staff.

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams regarding admissions, care planning, resident needs, and discharge planning.

• Monitor physician services and ensure timely clinical oversight for residents.

• Ensure the availability of necessary equipment, supplies, and staffing resources to support quality resident care.

• Develop and manage departmental budgets, staffing plans, and resource allocation.

• Conduct routine facility rounds to evaluate care delivery, compliance, and operational effectiveness.

• Partner with leadership to implement staff education and training initiatives that enhance clinical competency and resident outcomes.

• Ensure timely completion of resident assessments, care plans, and required clinical documentation.

• Support quality assurance and performance improvement programs focused on clinical excellence and resident satisfaction.

• Lead initiatives designed to improve resident outcomes and reduce avoidable hospital readmissions.

• Maintain oversight of nursing records, clinical systems, and regulatory reporting requirements.

• Participate in emergency response planning and provide leadership support as needed.

• Serve as an on-call clinical leader and designate appropriate coverage when unavailable.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

QualificationsEducation & Licensure

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois.

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited nursing program required; BSN preferred.

• Current CPR certification required.

Experience

• Previous leadership experience in a skilled nursing, long-term care, rehabilitation, or post-acute care setting preferred.

• Minimum of three years of Director of Nursing experience strongly preferred.

• Demonstrated success managing clinical operations, regulatory compliance, staffing, and quality initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

• Proven ability to manage teams, delegate responsibilities, resolve conflicts, and promote accountability.

• Understanding of long-term care regulations and standards of practice.

• Budgeting, workforce planning, and resource management experience.

• Proficiency with electronic health records and Microsoft Office applications.

• Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work schedules.

• Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk, stand, bend, reach, lift, push, pull, and sit for extended periods, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Ability to perform duties requiring fine motor coordination and manual dexterity.

• Occasional travel may be required.

• Ability to work in a healthcare environment with potential exposure to infectious diseases and other workplace hazards.
