Surgical Tech II - Full Time *** $10,000 Sign-On Bonus *** (Current MGB Surgical Techs NOT Eligible) Highlights of the Surgical Tech Role Our environment is fast-paced, energetic, collaborative, and innovative Our patient population spans the range from neonates to seniors, with 16 services and 58 operating rooms with multiple subspecialties Positions available across many specialties All shifts available - days, evenings, nights, 8-, 10- and 12-hour shifts Reasons to Choose Mass General Hospital Competitive salary and great benefits, including pension and 403(b) match MGH is the #1 hospital in New England based on U.S. News Best Hospitals for 2025-2026 Subsidized MBTA pass (50% discount) Resources for childcare and emergency backup care Hospital paid retirement plan and tax-sheltered annuity plan Discounts on tickets and passes for everything from ski resorts to museums to sporting events Essential Functions Under supervision, assists in operations: may help set up the operating room, prepare and transport patients for surgery, adjust lights and equipment, pass instruments and other supplies to surgeons and assistants, hold retractors, cut sutures, and help count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments Participates in time-out procedures Attainment of extra supplies and equipment as needed Sets up equipment independently Participates as an active member of the Patient Care Team Monitors and continually assesses operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs Prepares patients for surgery, including positioning on the operating table and covering them with sterile surgical drapes to prevent exposure Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room Performs other duties as assigned Complies with all policies and standards Education High School Diploma or Equivalent required Licenses and Credentials Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) – preferred Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) - National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) – preferred Work Experience Experience as a Surgical Technologist in an acute care setting – 2-3 years required Four (4) years experience as a surgical technologist in an acute care setting; committee and leadership experience – 3-5 years preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of SPD Sterile Room Ability to multitask, can work in a fast paced clinical environment Advanced knowledge of sterile processing procedures and policies Familiarity with medical terminology and departmental supply items is required The General Hospital Corporation is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
