Lonestar Electric Supply and its subsidiaries are seeking an HSE Specialist to lead and strengthen environmental, health, and safety programs across the company's regional electrical supply distribution network. This role serves as the primary resource for driving a proactive safety culture while ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and other regulatory requirements. The HSE Specialist partners closely with operations, warehouse teams, project managers, and regional leadership to identify risks, implement preventative measures, and support continuous improvement initiatives. The position requires a strong field presence, spending significant time conducting safety observations, coaching employees, investigating incidents, managing hazardous materials and waste programs, and overseeing risk mitigation efforts. Success in this role requires the ability to balance regulatory compliance with practical operational support, ensuring work is planned, executed, and completed safely while maintaining the speed, reliability, and service excellence Lonestar Electric Supply is known for. Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and continuously improve health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, NFPA 70E, and other applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
- Serve as the primary liaison for regulatory agencies during inspections, audits, and compliance reviews, while maintaining environmental permits, regulatory documentation, training records, and required reports.
- Conduct safety inspections, audits, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs/JSAs), and risk assessments to identify hazards, mitigate risk, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Lead investigations of workplace incidents, near misses, property damage events, and injuries using root cause analysis methodologies such as 5-Why and Fishbone and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
- Analyze safety performance metrics and trends to measure program effectiveness and identify opportunities to improve safety performance.
- Oversee HSE programs supporting warehouse, distribution, and logistics operations, including forklift safety, high-rack storage systems, material handling, pedestrian safety, battery charging stations, and electrical hazard mitigation.
- Conduct routine safety walks to evaluate racking integrity, pallet storage practices, equipment operation, housekeeping, and overall site compliance.
- Lead and promote Behavioral-Based Safety (BBS) initiatives to drive employee engagement, accountability, and a proactive safety culture.
- Develop, deliver, and manage safety and compliance training programs, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Fall Protection, Emergency Action Plans (EAP), Hazard Communication, Forklift Safety, Electrical Safety/NFPA 70E, ergonomics, and safe material handling, ensuring certifications and training requirements remain current.
- Partner with Human Resources, operations leadership, medical providers, and insurance carriers to manage workers' compensation claims, injury management, and return-to-work programs.
- Develop and coordinate emergency preparedness, response, and evacuation plans, including the facilitation of drills and evaluations of program effectiveness.
- Establish and maintain procedures for the safe handling, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous materials, industrial batteries, chemicals, and regulated waste streams.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health or related field preferred.
- 7 -10 years of Health, Safety, and Environmental experience within electrical construction, utility, industrial, or power systems environments.
- Certifications preferred: Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), OSHA 30-Hour Certification, Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), NFPA 70E Training Certification, First Aid/CPR Certification
- Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NFPA 70E, and workplace safety regulations.
- Strong understanding of warehouse operations, material handling equipment, forklift safety, and storage systems.
- Experience performing Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), risk assessments, and ergonomic evaluations.
- Excellent investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action management skills.
- Strong presentation, communication, and employee training abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, safety management systems, and incident tracking software.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and project management capabilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with all levels of the organization.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel approximately 50-75% of the time on a regular basis, including driving to customer sites, job sites, and other company locations.
- Must be able to stand, walk, climb, kneel, bend, and work in industrial, construction, and outdoor environments for extended periods.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to work extended hours, weekends, or overnight as business needs require.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record required.
