Senior Accountant

Job Description

This is a Senior Accountant role with a leading Real Estate Investment Trust where you’ll oversee property accounting while staying hands-on with close, accruals, and reporting. The position is especially compelling because the team is in the middle of building out and bringing more accounting in-house, so you’ll have real influence on processes and structure. It offers a strong mix of leadership and execution, along with high visibility across the organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

\n

Manage month-end close and reconciliation of Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and other sub-ledgers

\n

Review expense coding and amounts for accuracy; guide property management on proper treatment

\n

Prepare monthly internal and external reporting packages

\n

Prepare and post monthly journal entries, including period-end accruals and reserves

\n

Review operating expense and contract accruals; advise property managers as needed

\n

Prepare utility accruals, including method selection and supporting calculations

\n

Partner with property managers to determine proper accounting treatment for operating activities and fixed assets

\n

Calculate bad debt provisions and assess need for month-end adjustments

\n

Calculate and process intercompany fund transfers

\n

Perform account reconciliations, roll-forwards, and supporting schedules

\n

Confirm expenditures are properly expensed or capitalized per company policy

\n

Complete monthly bank reconciliations

\n

Record mortgage payments, including interest rate swap activity; verify escrow balances tie to lender records

\n

Monitor cash balances and funding needs for operating expenses, construction projects, and mortgage payments

\n

Provide support and explanations for annual property audits

\n

Prepare annual governmental property tax and income/expense filings

\n

Support quarterly consolidated reporting, including variance analysis and fixed asset additions/disposals verification

\n

Assist in preparing lender draw requests and compliance reporting packages

\n

Review annual budgets for correct G/L coding and compare to historical actuals

\n

Provide support for sales tax audits

\n

Support accounting for additional managed properties outside the core portfolio

\n

Lead and contribute to ad-hoc projects
